6.0 GTO faster than a SS, stock?

I got a couple guys I know that say that the stock GTO is faster than a stock SS. Their claim is because the Goat is lighter. Now of course they both own one so it makes sense they would say this. Of course I know this has been answered before, probably many times but what good is a forum if you cant ask questions, this is not a question. Besides if we just looked up all this information through past post and threads instead of making own it wouldn't be a forum, or it wouldn't be the informative Camaro forum that it is.
Anyways, to the real question which is faster stock? Thanks

Faster in what way? In the quarter? The Mustang's rear end will ensure that it puts out better 1/4 mile times.

Anyways, to the real question which is faster stock? Thanks
L99 auto at 400hp and a GT0 6.0 ls2 at 400hp would be a very close race. Probably edge to the GTO. Better power to weight. But according to the fastest stock times the L99 has went just as quick as an ls2 GTO @ 12.8. Too close to call.

LS3 at 426 hp and ls2 GTO at 400hp would give a slight edge to the camaro. Manual camaro is 3860 lbs and GTO is like 3750 or so. LS3 has a better power to weight. 9.375 lb per hp for gto and 9.06 for ss ls3.

Cant really argue it...the fasest ever posted stock time for an ls3 5th gen is 12.5. The stock ls2 GTO has never gone 12.5 stock. 12.8 is the record I believe....and they have been around a lot longer.

So basically you are both right I suppose

SS is def. the better machine.

One key reason is the trans difference and gearing. TR6060 > T-56 in many ways. The SS will put the power down more efficiently than a GTO will.

SS's are also top end machines and tend to trap a lot higher than even a well driven GTO.

SS > GTO.

I've beat a 6.0 GTO the day after I brought my SS home, stock for stock. Close though.

Stock fire stock the ls3 camaro is a tad faster. Expect maybe 1mph and 1 tenth quicker on average. L99 though is slower. You can't expect to weigh close to 200lbs more and produce the same power and expect to be faster.expect the l99 car to be slower by maybe 2mph and 2 tenths on average

Vs an auto gto though expect it to be close. Better power to weight but worse gearing.

I would say it is closer to .2 -.3 tenths and 2-3mph advantage for the LS3 SS.

Not from what I witness at the track. also, look at the numbers (and not hero runs) 25 less hp but also 100-150lbs less weight . The difference in performance is measurable, sorry but maybe not quite as much as you would like.

As much as I would like? I dont really care. My car wasnt stock 5 minutes lol

I was talking hero time vs hero time. 12.5 vs 12.8. Max potential for both cars shows a .3 tenth difference. Not really arguing just stating the facts. 3 years on the road and we have a camaro at 12.5 hero and 7 years on the road and we have the GTO at 12.8. Not sure whats to be argued or how I can be more fair.

M6 to M6 would be pretty close, but the SS would have it with equal drivers and no mistakes. The gear ratios between a T-56 and TR6060 are nearly identical between an SS and 6.0L GTO.

The SS will generally take the GTO with its slightly better power-to-weight ratio, and a higher redline. Just don't get ****y and don't mess up.

The Goat might be lighter (not by that much), but the 26 extra hp from the LS3 makes up for it. Tell your buddies to do the math.

My car traps avg 112 to my friends avg of 109 in his gto, we both have have headers, intake, but he has a tune and he is auto. The ls3 Camaro is definitely faster on the top end, I give it about 2 tenths advantage on avg. The auto Camaro I would say is dead even, same output but the l99 has a better power curve.

I owned 2 GTOS (an 05 and 06)

I ran 13.3 @ 105 mph in my 06 GTO in pretty good conditions.

My 6 speed manual GTO was really really hard to launch. It wheel hopped like crazy because it has a very soft suspension.
My A4 (auto) GTO was much easier to launch and run good times with.

Stock vs stock - it would be a very close race (L99 A6 vs LS2 GTO).
But a well driven LS3 M6 Camaro SS is faster (that's a fact) than an LS2 GTO (auto or manual).

Also - my L99 A6 has run much faster times (mod vs mod) than my LS2 GTOs.
I never came close to running 12.1 in my GTO with just intake, exhaust, tune, and drag radials (which I was able to do in my L99 A6).

while i dont doubt the LS3 camaro is faster than the LS2 GTO, the fact that your friend is within 3mph from you despite being automatic shows that the manual GTO would be closer still. roughly 2 mph. your car is still faster but manual vs manual theyre very close with advantage to the LS3. The LS2 m6 vs L99 advantage still goes to GTO. same power less weight = faster.

No your wrong, the l99 is faster mod for mod, and the ls3 is much faster. His car is tuned also, mine is not...if I were tuned I would be faster by another 1 or 2 mph, so even if he picked up mph with a manual he would still be at lest 2 mph slower then me on avg. The Camaro is the faster car, not by much but it is.

Yes, it is true. I'm big time into drag racing and I owned a 05 M6 GTO and an 06 A4 GTO. I've got a huge stack of time slips from both cars (stock, mildly modded, and cammed).
I now own a L99 A6 GTO.
My times in my L99 A6 have been several tenths faster (on average) than my GTO times with the same mods.

But stock vs stock - the L99 A6 and LS2 GTO is a drivers race. LS3 M6 is the clear winner.

I think the ls3 and l99 are just that much better then the ls2, not a big power gap but the power band and better heads show what they are worth in this case! The Camaro is a bit heavier with much heavier wheels and taller tires but still faster. If you were to install 17" wheels on a Camaro the gap would really grow.

Like a few people that have chimed in already I also had a GTO. I bought it new in 2006 and left it 100% stock the entire 4K miles I owned it. Like my new SS it too was a M6 and I can say with 100% certainty that my SS is faster. The LS2 GTO is more so a match for a LS1 4th Gen more so than a 5th Gen LS3.

You own a L99 A6 GTO? Damn was that swap expensive? LOL, just busting your balls man. IMO a LS2 is slightly faster than the L99 in stock form and the LS3 is for sure faster than the LS2. However when you start modding the L99 all bets are off mod for mod. One problem that I know of that plagues the GTO is traction and wheel hop. Even more so than our cars. The rear end body design of that car only allows for like a max of 275 tire. The more power you have in that car the harder it is to hook it. My friend is looking at getting a 05+ GTO and asked me what his first mods should be. I told him wider wheels, stickier wider tires and suspension mods.

I can personally vouch that stock for stock, stick for stick, equal driver's, the Camaro wins EVERY time. Autos I have no personal experience with.
