ZL1 Fuel Pump Install

Installed the ZL1 fuel pump yesterday. Man, what a job that was, 4 hours. Had to take off the rear tires, tunnel support, exhaust, 2 shields and drive shaft. Then took out the front bolts of the rear and loosened the 2 rear bolts and lowered the rear. Took off the fuel tank straps and lowered the tank to disconnect all lines and electric connections. I bought the tool($54) to take off the ring holding the pump in the tank, so that was the easy part. Installing the pump was also easy with the tool. Tomorrow it's going to the tuner to get 72# injectors put in and a dyno tune. Will I ever stop doing this stuff.

So that's the only way to install the pump, I assume?

I have my ZL1 fuel pump in my garage with a 3" pulley for my Edelbrock with new injectors. I was going to put them in this summer but I think I'm going to wait and have it done this winter because I don't drive it in the winter. I'm thinking I should be around 550-575 RWHP. Now all I can think about is what to do next to get more power. Does it ever end???

I see you have an Edelbrock S/C as I do. As you can see by my sig I've gotten 546/rwhp with no cam or pully change.

Make sure you get it tuned on a cool day. I have a ZL1 fuel pump, Edlebrock s/c and 82LB injectors. Mine was tuned when it was over 145 degree air temp and I got 520rwhp/570ftlbs of torque. I need to have it tuned again. IT NEVER ENDS!!!!!! All my friends are still impressed and so am I!!!!

I'm about to do same install for whipple coming, did you have to undo spring mounts at top to lower or are they attached to cradle as you lower it or this is not necessary to get enough room to remove tank? I haven't been under rear yet to take a closer look & want to have no surprises as I have to borrow hoist with not much time allocated to me. cheers

You don't have to undo the spring mounts to remove the tank. Did mine on jack stands.

Hey thanks for info, yep going to have a go this weekend on Jack stands in Garage, question, do I need to disconnect handbrake cables this way or can I leave them attached? Also did you jack stand body then lower diff by jack, or jack stand diff & raise body with jack somehow?

cheers

Haha probably, but mine still in transit, hopefully at my door tomorrow, but going to take my time, got to sort dam oil leak from oil cooler out while under there, going to remove it permanently, just waiting on parts to arrive to block all off. Also installing BAP too at same time, so hopefully don't have to get under again.

Why not just cut an access panel under back seat. Did mine this way and now can replace pump in minutes. Not mine but similar.
