At first I thought the same thing. Then I recalled he mentioned how it fared with its new owner - so he must have meant the latter

I personally feel with your expectation level you need to look into perhaps German made cars. Try maybe a 335i BMW.. I have seen with a simple reflash they gain almost 80hp and over 100ft/lbs of torque with adding more boost.

I'm not sure what my expectation level is? Shit to work properly? I expect when I release my clutch pedal that the clutch will release. When you buy a 50K+ flagship Mustang I expect that the transmission will go from gear to gear under hard acceleration without grinding itself to pieces. I guess I'm expecting to much. If i bought a challenger I'd expect to go slow

Anyone have any idea what a 97 vette (LS1) with auto typically dynos on a Dynojet and Mustang dynos? Theres a potential dyno day coming up and the vette owner is proposing high score doesn't pay.

I was up in the north today. Rippling Brook Drive. I saw a yellow 5th Gen sitting in a driveway off of what I believe was Nicholson Road. Don't know if any of you guys live near that area, but I don't make it out that way very often.

Maybe that's some metric measurement.

For the Corvettes:

LS1 is 350hp/350tq
LS2 is 400/400
LS3 is 430/420

Or there about...

All at the flywheel. Factor about 15% loss through M6 and 18-20 through A6.

Let him propose that as long as his car is stock, any stock 10+ Camaro SS will dyno higher.

97-00 were rated lower due to the LS1 intake.

345hp @ 5600rpm
350tq @ 4400rpm

I have the exact numbers because I'm a dork and used to keep track of that stuff year-to-year.

Your friend will be sorely disappointed. That's ok, just build him up so he's even more embarrassed when he see's how ignorant he is.

However, are you sure he doesn't mean to say 2007? He'd be correct then about the 400hp, just as IROCanSS points out.

Jamie, does the 2012 2SS have no lift shift built into the system similar to the ZL1? They both have launch control, so I thought possibly they both have the no lift shift?

Thanks guys, that's about where I had guessed (330-350) since I didn't follow LS1 tech as much as other brands. My one coworker even said "he's a ricer they came 345 from the factory" so its good to have backup of that number. The 18-20% through the A6 puts him in the high 200's at the wheels which confirms whats been said before.

As for 97 vs 07, the owner explicitly said that it was a 97 and an LS1. He also works the same shift as I do so I saw it in the parking lot and its a C5 body style, so I'm fairly certain it is what he claims. Did the vette have an LS1 in the C6's? I thought they were all LS2 or LS3 (in the models that anyone who works with me could afford).

LOL... I dont know for sure, but with the way he abuses his "only 1 of 7000 made" (due to the combination of options offered and it being a 97 or whatever) with donuts in the parking lot among other stunts and general driving habits it wouldn't surprise me.

as said before, a 1997 LS1 will put down about 280-310 to the rear tires depending on the dyno and transmission. The LS1 Vette also does not have an A6, they have an A4.

C6 Vette ran a LS2 from 2005-2007, switching to the LS3 in 2008 for the base models.

(edit - comments are not intended to start a dyno holy war. its just my opinion)
Well they want to go to a mustang dyno because its cheaper (something like 40-50 for 3 pulls vs the dynojet dyno which is 60 for 1 pull, 90 for 3) even though I'm not a fan of their "we correct for wind resistance" BS. I go to a dyno to measure actual torque (and then, by calculation, horsepower) than have all of this "real world correction" BS factored in. Plus I like being able to get the raw data of the dynojet runs so I can analyze them at home on the computer instead of just getting a pretty printout in a clear cover.

But I digress... the bottom line is nomatter what dyno we go to he's probably packing more WHP than I am (It's me, a vette, a PT Turbo, a Civic Si, and a VW Golf) which means his proposal of "high HP gets it for free" is to get a free dyno at our expense. F that.
