Talking cold Air

Does anyone know if adding a Cold Air Induction will void any ZL1 warranty?

With $5.00 per gallon gas looming, it would sure be nice to get a extra few Miles per gallon. O.K., The extra HP wouldn't hurt either...

The only issue with CAI intake is that the filter is a wet oil filter. Now if the oil gets on the MAF sensor it can cause miss readings and send bad data to the computer.

If you do what CAI stats in their instructions, you shouldn't have an issue.

No. The only way it voids your warranty is if they find the cause of the problem to be your aftermarket CAI.

my dealer tells me that if you take off the factory intake, and install an after market one ,that is a Mod. and damage will not be covered.

Your dealer is an idiot. They have to prove that your mod is what caused the problem. Check out the Magnuson Moss warranty act.

There are many good CAI brands out there. Roto-Fab, Cold Air Inductions, ADM's cai. The bigger problem is no one has one for the ZL1 yet

No company currently is offering a CAI for the ZL1.

I would love a CAI. I'd like to see the wording on the warranty for track use. Someone said on the forum that it doesn't apply if you make modifications. When I spoke with my ordering manager, he said a CAI shouldn't affect the warranty - I'll want that in writing...

We have had them finished for over 1 month
Now.

We have built 3 zl1 clones and 2 more in the works

The previous build was here -

and here

We knew we were up against to much boost but we wanted adjustability,So we turned to our friends at Lingenfelter for their 2 piece upper pulley system(We used stock balancer off an LSA)The Largest Blower Pulley LPE offers is a 2.55 " which gives 2-3 psi average over a stock CTSV or ZL1 Blower Pulley.Lingenfelter will be making us a stock pulley size in 2 piece config for pump gas tune.

The car has the ADM LS3 Conversion with a GT 11 Cam,Stainless Power Headers,Stock Heads with Dual valve springs,ADM ZL1 Race Intake,Tr6 Plugs
ZL1 Fuel Pump,63lb injectors.

We removed the TVS 2300 MAGGIE for a SMALLER BLOWER (ZL1 TVS 1900)

644 RWHP on 111octane through the stock automatic transmission and 3:45 gears.

All I can say is VERY IMPRESSIVE

We also have Zl1 RACE SCOOPS - http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=205876

does the intake add in additonal HP / torque numbers and does it reduce the or add to the boost at all?

I can't imagine they have any data on that. I mean wouldn't they need a ZL1 to run tests on

It very well might. While you may not alterring too much, there's a carbon trap in the OEM intake (if I'm not mistake - I haven't seen a ZL1 airbox yet...) and you are changing parts, so... It will be interesting to see if there are any significant gains from a CAI. We all know that cooler air makes more power, however, GM's also said that ZL1 has a special dual-inlet intake. There are no resonators in the inlet elbow, like CTS-V, to choke and add turbulance, to the air, so it would seem to me that ZL1 might very well be starting off with a great piece already. Depending on the size of the inlets, there may be restrictions there, however, that may only be in the event of making more power than simple bolt-ons.

I'd suggest reading the current issue of GMHTP. A customer of ADM (one of our Sponsors) brought a '12 CTS-V in, completely stock, with somewhere around 860 miles. They performed a baseline dyno (520 RWHP), and added an inlet elbow (a rigid piece that won't suck closed like has been alleged with OEM rubber elbows), and removed the ONE inlet scoop, and enlarged the scoop opening (nearly doubling the total opening area). They re-dyno'd the 'V and picked up more than 20 RWHP with NO tune. ADM went on to complete their Stage I package, and ended up adding a total of another nearly 70 RWHP, but that's a little beyond the scope of your post. Get a look at that article for at least the intake mods'. Understand, though, that ZL1's intake will be less restrictive (like I said - two inlets and no resonance chambers in the elbow), although, it's rated at more power (which requires more air...), it will likely have less restriction that the 'V's. I believe ADM also has a scoop, too, though, that you should have a look into

ZL1 CLONE #2 Performance upgrade on 7.0liter

So a long time customer came to me last week and stated that he wanted to be the #2 car that gets the ZL1 Blower Package,But with a twist.

He wants to put the blower on his current 7.0 liter

At ADM we tend to do alot of things first, this has to be the first 2012 ZL1 Blower on a 427.

Here is the recipe:

Original ADM built LS7 with Mahle Forged pistons
11.4:1 Compression(Unchanged)
Factory Titanium Rods
Factory Forged LS7 Crank
Machined Snout
GT-11 Cam
"LSA" 70CC Ported Heads
2" ARH Headers with Cats
3" Magnaflow Exhaust
ADM ZL1 Intake
63lb Injectors
ADM Dual fuel pump system
ADM Tune
100% Stock ZL1 Blower,Intercooler,Heat Exchanger,Stock LSA Balancer,Stock Blower Pulley
ZL1 water lines
ADM Intercooler Pump
LSA Spark Plugs

First we remove the engine and strip it down:

Then we lay out new parts:
