NY Front Plate

I know in NY it is necessary to have a front license plate. I know this because in my 1995 Corvette state trooper pulled my dad over because he had the cover over it. Is there any pictures of the car with front plates on? Or are they allowing it in NYS without them?

No front plate is a $65 fine in NYC. Here are pics of the Camaro with the front plate installed http://camaro5.com/forums/showthread...+white+stripes

Luckily here in BFE, NY the cops aren't real anal about it. Probably because we don't have red light cameras for revenue collection yet. I figure I'll put one on when motorcycles have to. What I would like to see is the choice to pay a waiver fee not to have one. $25/yr wouldn't be out of order. They could code your window sticker or make it a different color so Buford T. Justice wouldn't pull you over for no reason. Maybe I'll write my state rep if I can figure out who it is and whether or not they are in jail

I've gone past or been passed by several local and county depts without a glance.

Yesterday though a trooper took a looong head turning look.
Luckily he kept going up the on ramp to the expressway.

Needless to say I (ehem) decided to change my route to one that wouldnt let him do a u turn on the expressway and sneak up behind me.

I'd like to think he was checking out my car for the automotive enjoyment...but Troopers seem to be like robots...so I know he was thinking if it was worth swinging back to get me.

I haven't been hassled...but I guess it's only a matter of time.
If I'm going to get it...it'll probably be from a State Trooper.
They seem to have nothing better to do.

But I don't want to drill holes and I'm too worried about catching the show and go on a driveway approach or curb.

Maybe I'll try that toggle bolt option...on a fix it ticket - If I'm lucky.

Don't mean to "spam" this thread but the thought occurs to me.

Why doesnt Chevy or GM design a plate that is removable or a plate frame that is no drill?

Seems like it would be a popular option to me.

Per my previous post, I sent this to my state assembyperson. Copy and paste to send to yours. Just be sure to change the names to protect the guilty

Dear Ms. Lifton,
I am contacting you in regards to the front license plate requirement in New York State. Myself, and many others have sports cars that a front license plate just does not work well with. New York is one of about only 30 states of 50 that require one. One one hand, eradication of this plate could save the state a substantial amount of money each year, but I sort of see the safety/revenue side considering red light cameras and such. I find it odd that motorcycles aren't required to have one, but seasonal vehicles such as mine are. While there have been petitions started in the past for this, none seem to make it very far. I know you may have more pressing business than this, but my solution is as follows. Why not have a choice to run a front plate or not via a waiver? That is, at registration time, waive the front plate rule for a fee, say $25/yr. The window sticker could be a different color or coded differently to inform an officer of the law so he would not pull you over. This I feel would give us the freedom my group is seeking as well as add money to the state coffers. I'm sure my fellow Camaro, Corvette, Mustang, etc. owners would agree. I hope you agree and can help us.
Thank you,
Best regards,
