DynoJet = Lower numbers?

Just wondering if DynoJet numbers are low compared to other dynos?

I just got my SS dynoed and was pretty amazed at how low they were. I was definitely expecting higher numbers than 337/360. Only mods are CAI with scoop, ported TB, and axelback exhaust, Yes i know these arent gunna add a whole lot of power to begin with but i figured itd be higher..

Automatic, High Temps, humidity, High altitude and 91 octane all play a roll in Low Power numbers.

At Sea Level in 60 degree Dry air they make 330-340 RWHP All Stock.

That doesn't look that low now LOL. You have some V8 guys that dyno in the 290's stock on a dynojet. A dyno is not a tool to measure your overall exact horsepower. Some will come close, and some too high or too low. Don't trust dyno numbers in knowing your overall hp/tq, dyno is a tuning tool to measure your modifications.

You're pretty much spot on for an A6. they make 25 less than an M6. My initial dyno with catback and CAI was 358 rwhp on a dynocom....man that was a long time ago....7 months! I also only had 600 miles at the time which affects it a little.

How many miles on your motor? If less that a few grand then it will loosen up a bit. Dont get wrapped up in the numbers though as you mentioned. Use the dyno as a tool and try to always use the same one after each mod

Have you gotten it tuned? That would probably optimize your mods and unleash some extra HP/TQ. It really helps the auto tranny, too.

You're good. You should be worried if you only made 290 rwhp. There have been L99 A6s producing numbers this low. I talked to a guy who said his L99 A6 only made 290 rwhp and he wanted to take his car back to the dealer.

He ended up getting his car tuned by a local tuner, and his numbers jumped to the 330s range.

Just because a guy make 290 on the dyno does not mean his car is really making 290hp LOL. You just have to understand how dynos work and what it was meant for. If you guys come out of a dyno with 360hp stock would you say that you need to take it back to the dealer? Some dynos will produce low numbers and some high, and some just about right. There's just no way to perfectly calculate your exact hp/tq on a dyno. It can come close but it will never be perfect on the money.

Yes, that is true. You do need to look at the dyno being used and what kind of correction factor being used.
But there are cases where cars are only making 290s rwhp on Dyno Jets (SAE corrected numbers). These same dynos are producing 320 rwhp (bone stock) with other L99 A6s running on them.

I also chatted with a local guy and his car also dynoed in the 290s (Dyno Jet SAE corrected). His car is now modded (intake, full exhaust with long tubes, and tune) and is making in the 360s rwhp/370 lb ft. (which is right where he should be for his mods).

For some reason, don't know if it's still the low octane tune issue, but some L99s dyno real low.
