Hurst shifter modification Help!!

I have the Hurst shifter in my car. I'm not big on how tall it is and that you can't find many shift knobs to put on it.

I'm thinking about trying to retro fit a shaft like listed in this link or a other similar they have to one shorten the height and have acces to 100s of shift knobs.

What are your thoughts on it working?

The height was one of the reasons I decided not to use the Hurst. I ended up selling mine for just a little less than I bought it and installed an MGW. The MGW is a more involved install but once it's done it's awesome. A much better shifter IMO and you can use different knobs. I choose the Race Knob and it's a pefect height and feel for me.

Yes the height is taller than the factory but it gives it much needed mechanical leverage when rowing this big transmission. The 44% reduction in throw makes up for the longer stick because you have to move less.
