Driving Around Chicago?

Hey everyone; i was wondering what its like to drive around chicago. For those of us that are camaro enthusiasts, and are into open roads and enjoy driving around.

From what ive learned, it seems that the streets are very narrow inside the city, and parking spaces are very limited. Ive also heard that parking buildings are expensive.

So for those of you who are living there or have been there, what are your thoughts on the situation?

Do you enjoy cruising around at night? What about day driving? Is it a nuisance? Parking Spaces?

Let me hear your opinions

Driving lake shore drive or down Michigan ave on a Saturday night can't be beat. The loud cars sound good echoing off the buildings. But it's a lot of stop and go traffic. Parking is not only tight, but it will set you back about $30.

Quick story, my gf and I were walking back to her car at Navy Pier one night only to find 3 teenagers sitting on her Camry. I flipped my lid, starting yelling and swearing. Apparently they dropped their lighter inside the hood and they needed it back. I had to call the cops bc I was ready to kill.

And she wants to know why we never take my car downtown.

Thanks for all the info,

Lake Shore Drive looks amazing at night, but tell me more about the traffic

about the parking, your saying it sets you back $30 a day?

Lol, i'd hate to be in your place that night dude, looks like your ran into some troublesome immature youth, of all the places in the world; why would they sit near your girls camry?

Lake shore drive isn't bad. South of the city is where you get all the crime. If your looking to cruise around stay on lake shore, in the city you hit traffic lights every 50ft. Parking on Michigan Ave is about $30/day.

don't forget about the stupid drivers. either they are texting with one hand and smoking with the other or they do not believe that the rules of the road apply to them.

and last but not least, the worst potholes in the nation.

so - your title is correct. it is best to drive AROUND Chicago, not in it.

Chicago certainly isn't open roads or free parking.

Day driving is a PITA. Parking is only in pay lots and they are ~$30/night.

The people are awesome.

Plus you can't have window tint in the city limits legally. I try to stay away from the city and only drive in the suburbs, where the roads are wider. I would be uncomfortable driving my camaro in city traffic.

Three of us took our Camaro's all the way to the end of Navy Pier and took some pretty cool pictures. We also went in front of the Marilyn Monroe statue and took a few. People were actually taking pictures of our cars instead of Marilyn. If you go to chicago5thgen the pictures are posted there.

just don't go past mccormick place going south and you'll be fine. Lake shore drive is oen of the main roads I cruise at night when it's nice out.

When they think Chicago people automatically think it's a crime hole. It depends on where you live. I live on the south side, but not the south south side lol. I guess you can say the southwest side. Parking is a bitch every day. Definitely expect to shell out a good amount to park downtown.
