I owned my Sierra for ten years. The only dent (and paint chip) it got was at the car wash when it was getting detailed. Moron parked too close to the building and banged the end of the drivers door. Needless to say, he didn't get a tip.

Granted it would piss me off if I came out one day to some fresh door dings, but I know eventually it will happen since I drive my car daily, and drive it every where... I do try to park far away from the entrance of places to minimize the chances though...

An ex girlfriend of mine had a really nice 78 El Camino, and she would actually park across 2 parking spots so no one could park close to her... I thought she was crazy! Guess not...

I try to park a good distance away from the herd in a location where the average lazy person won't. Never fails; some bonehead will park RIGHT next to me. Geezus dude, there are 500 empty spots and you JUST HAVE to park RIGHT next to me?

Is it bad that all I can think of is making these things out of C-4 Plastic. Go ahead, sling your car door open Mr no respect for other people's property; I bet you'll never do it again.

Those doorshox look like a great idea, but just like it was said before. Some dick will probably just mess with my car to get me fired up.

My point exactly. If you are out by yourself in the burbs of a parking lot, someone will be a big enough a**hole and come squeeze right next to you simply because they know it will annoy you..

A guy on the corvette forum parked in the burbs at a grocery store. He parked with one side of his car right against the cart corral to get extra protection. He said he was in and out of the store within 15 minutes and 2 teens had taken the carts out and put them all around his vette (I will admit it was a funny picture but only because it wasn't my car).

So my solution is to park a couple of spaces beyond the furthest car but not out in the burbs all by myself. As far as door guards go, people will just take them out of spite so I wouldn't waste my money on them.

I too got hit recently. Parked in the less busier of two lots, uphill from the shopping center and still somehow manage to get a shopping cart hit me...going up hill...

I cry myself to sleep every night.

This must be cultural. Where I live, I park away from everyone, and I have NEVER had anyone park next to me. I think if you live in an affluent city, people are just used to nice cars being around.

Sorry about the idiots; I had a couple door dings too, dentless paint repair will get it like new and they work wonders if you get the right one. Regards, Robert

If not the door dings, window chips, it will be the idiot that throws their plastic soda bottle out the window, gets squashed flat with nice sharp edges and picked up by a gust of wind, smashing into the nose, scratching the damn thin paint. DOHHH!

Did your Dad swinging the door open damage the car next to you? I hope you left a note if so.

Slight bump. I'm going to order doorshox just for one side. There is an older man who parks in my work lot, he's super careless. I've scared the shit out of him but I think he can't help being stupid. He's got a G35. He's got me twice and I'm going to get this so I don't get picked up for battery.

I bought a doorshox for one side. I don't use it often but once a week or so I find myself in a lot where there just isn't a good place to park so I'll break it out for the extra piece of mind.

At work I try to find a spot where nobody will likely park with their driver side door next to my car. Away from work I'm more mindful of the passenger side of other cars, especially if children might be around.

The crease of the camaro door is so exposed I wish there was some kind of product that was a super strong, super thin material (maybe titanium) that could be painted and permanently attached to the door to absorb some of the shock.

I feel like these would be stolen very quickly. Just pull hard and break them...or pull hard and ruin whatever it is hooked to in the car.

Buy a pair, give them to the old man as a gift. Offer to install them and put them vertically on the edges of his doors. I think they are magnetic so use some 3M tape.

Then his car can look ugly and everyone else in the world will know not to park next to him

Possibly but my hope is the wire running into the door gives the appearance that the thing is attached to an alarm.

For anyone that gets these, my one piece of advice is to be very careful attaching it to the door. I haven't had any problems but if you don't take your time as you place it on the door, the magnets are strong enough to yank it out of your hand and possibly scratch the door.

#1 This is NOT my daily driver.
#2 I wipe it down and park it in the garage whenever I'm not driving her.
#3 I check the weather report before I operate her.
#4 IF, it begins to cloud up, it's time to take her home and put her up.
#5 I'm really picky about what is put in her, I don't allow food or anything that can start stinking her up.
#6 When parking in lots, I do tend to park away from everybody else.
#7 I don't drive her in hours of darkness to avoid running into bugs.

Excuse me, it's just my OCD kicking in. I'm overprotective. My fiance had to clean it before she actually drove it.

She won't be driving it again!!!

My next door neighbors are doctors, a husband and wife, they drive a range rover and a brand new 5 series BMW that they have washed 2 times (seriously) in the last year that they've owned it. We live in condos so we all have to park outside, they have door dinged my car on both sides now over the last couple months with that Bmer and they could care less. You can even see the damage all up and down the edge of the driver's door on that thing like they do it every day, all day. To some people a car is just transportation and NOTHING more, no matter how much it costs.
