Drove a Challenger today
So i drove a black 2009 challenger SRT-8 with M6 today. It drove nice, rode nice, seats were really good, like a viper. This thing was loaded, navi, sub woofer in trunk, $45,956 reatil. Felt a bit heavy and big, especially backing it up! As for power, not bad, but not worth that kind of money, not that impressed really. Second gear getting onto interstate from clover leaf stomped on it, not even a hint of maybe getting the tires to spin...blah. And shifting from 2nd to third it wanted to natually go to 5th so that killed the fun factor. We got back to lot and sales guy asked what it would take for me to cancel my order for my camaro. i told him drop 10k off price, have it lose some pounds, and look like a camaro and i would take it today. now i really cant wait for my car!!!!

My wife and I also drove a Challenger a couple of weeks ago. It felt like I was driving a 2 ton truck
, had to man handle it. The car looks good but it is not fun to drive.

A 426 stroker is sick in the new mopars. Throw on a blower for even more giggles and it turns a quick car in to a "Hell no, don't shift out of second!" car.
The challenger has earned it's stripes with what it can do at the track. If you want old school done right with exposed motor mounts and a car that doesn't scream "bad ass" but instead gives off the bad ass vibe the challenger is at the top of your list. How ever, it won't be as fast stock for stock and the LSx engines finally found a proper platform! The Camaro is the superior machine, better balance and lighter weight helps a lot comparing stock for stock. Modified? Who knows at that point. I'm sure it'll be fun to watch it all go down. Personally as much as I like the Challenger it looks ugly grafted on to the sedans chassis in comparison to the Camaros purpose built chassis. |

I think I might have to go check out the SRT8 and test drive it so I can make a call on it. I personally like it's looks, just think the price is a little to high for my taste!

Sorry but that's not the 2010 Charger. That's a concept rendering by Doug Schramm.

I have a Challenger R/T and can chirp the tires in first, second and third gears
You gotta drive that SRT8 harder than that Catmaster...its heavy but it sure as hell can bust those tires and the accelaration is nothing to sneeze at, right there with a Camaro SS

The V6 starts at $22,945. It's similar in Mustang pricing with a better warranty. The basic R/T you can own for under $30. The SRT-8 for roughly $10K more, but in my opinion you would be better off with the R/T for the cost difference, plus no gas guzzler tax like on the SRT-8. Dodge's warranty is pretty awesome if you like to keep your car for a long period of time, plus you can upgrade it and do a bumper to bumper LIFETIME. I still think the Camaro is king of the pony cars now. Ford will take the market share with the Mustang due to the fact they build 140,000 a year. The Mustang will take a few Camaro buyers out of the market due to availability and cost. Mustang buyers miss the boat on performance, but that's nothing new since they last made the Cobra with IRS. The 2010 Mustang is just a slightly revised version of the 2009 model. I would have liked to see them revert back to IRS like on the old Cobra and boost the horsepower, but that's not in the cards unless you want to drop $50K on a GT500 that will sit and spin at green lights. If I couldn't get a Camaro, and had to have a car, I'd choose the Challenger over the Mustang even though the Mustang is a little quicker. Camaro will be the exclusive car to own of the three (Challenger, Mustang Camaro). It takes the cake in performance, and style in my opinion. I really like what GM has done with the car. ~Brian |

I am a old Mopar guy and still have a Power Wagon, Super Bee and a 383 Coronet. I actually bought my Vette to hold me over until the Challenger came out. Sure it is heavier than I would like but all in all they did a good job on it.
Problem is at least locally the dealers SUCK! They started off with insane mark ups and as the ship slowly sinks they are holding on to them. Back in Feb. when they went on Employee Pricing and then went on again and off again it was a total joke. I had an R/T picked out and ready to go and they pulled the rug out from under me. So now I am playing with getting a Camaro and it is as Yogi Berra says " deja vu all over again.....the dealers SUCK here too! In sane mark ups, mis communication and bald face lies everywhere. And so here I sit, money in my pocket and no car to buy and sure I could go to a outside area dealer but what is the point? The same suck dealers will be working on my new ride and I didnt even buy it from them. The Challenger AND the Camaro are awesome cars. The Mustang GT and GT 500 are awesome cars. It is circa 1970 all over agaon....and sadly for those that remember 1970, it brought 1972/73 and the end of that muscle car era. Enjoy it while you can folks...that we can even do the Dodge Chevy Ford fight again is a miracle...it aint gonna last. |
