should i void warranty for tune and headers???

i cant decide whether i should void the warranty just for a tune and headers!!! its a 2012 SS that I love dearly lol. I already have all the mods i can do without crossing the line of voiding the engine and transmission with a tune i would need for the headers.

It's been a tough pill for me to swallow too, but I bought eight cylinders not four. AFM gets tuned out Saturday.

I'd agree on waiting. These machines seem pretty solid, but who's to say you didn't get the late night friday car.

Horsepower is addictive - it's awesome like that. So now I have a question: when you are at a pool, do you jump in or walk down the stairs slowly?

performance mods are kind of the same thing. At the end of the day you're still going to be all the way in the pool, just depends how long it takes you to do that. Some people like to play it safe and wait til the warranty is up, others like to throw headers on right when they get home from the dealer. Then others start off slow but end up with a blower before they even know it.

I have 9,000 miles and pulled the trigger but figured if I was going to void the warranty I was going to get serious power. I went with a cam, lt's cai and tune all at once...very happy I did. The way I see it is, I am pretty handy with auto's, anything shor of a tranny rebuild and engine internals...I can fix it in my driveway. If you are financially sound, DO IT

if its a L99... go ahead and get rid of GM's blunder.... AFM is a JOKE... I tuned it out and lost approximately 0.00mpgs, lol

AFM is pretty cool, if your idea of pretty cool is getting kicked in the nuts everytime your car gets to about 60mph

I am with JCollins on this one, if you can afford to mod it then you better be ready to afford to fix it yourself if it breaks and the dealership tells you that you are on your own.

Ask yourself a question....if something breaks, can you afford the bill to fix it yourself. If yes, then go for it. If no.....ask yourself....."do you feel lucky punk, well do you"?

Yes. I had the same mindset... wait til warranty is over. At 14k miles, I couldn't stand looking at my headers and catback sitting in the guest room doing nothing, so I installed them. Drove untuned for about 6 months, 5k miles, then went ahead and got it tuned. Haven't looked back since. Its totally worth it and you will be happy with the end result... at least I was!

and if I wanted a 4 cylinder, I would have bought a Honda... want AFM in a SUV or Sedan? by all means, go for it... other than that, it has no place on a L99... gas guzzler tax? who cares, the GTO had it, it was less than $1500... GIVE US A DAMN V8, lol

No, it's not worth it at all. Think of it like an investment. For risky investments, a wise investor will demand a risk premium, meaning the return on investment for something risky should be more than a less risky investment.

So, your "return on investment" here is the extra horsepower from headers and a tune. Sure, the return is there, but it's not worth the added risk of losing the warranty on a brand new vehicle that still has a good 5 warranty years left.

If you're going to void the warranty, your return should be higher. A good cam and valve-spring package from a reputable shop will offer higher return, but at a similar risk as headers and tune. Of course, the initial investment is higher with the cam package, so the end decision is up to you as to how much you really value the added horsepower.

had my car have not had AFM, I would have been in NO hurry to tune my car... but half the fun of owning a Camaro is owning a V8 Camaro, half the fun of owning a V8 Camaro is having a loud Camaro... once you get rid of the stock mufflers(that are WAY too quite I might add) on the L99, AFM is unbearable... I hardly noticed it stock, the sound of the car on the highway alone made a tune worth it once the exhaust went on, kick ass performance aside

as far as the risk, if I couldn't afford to play, I wouldn't be playing... but if I couldn't afford to play, i'd probably be driving a V6 Camaro

I will say this, I by no means am willing to tap saings for a rebuild or tranny for lets say worst case scenario 6k but I also have another car that I could use everyday if needed. If you have around 5k saved up or available on a credit card (if thats even an option) I would feel comfortable anough to do it. All in all these cars are solid, but mechanical meshaps happen!

I added Airaid Air Induction and GMPP exhaust and I am holding out mods for 3 more years. I can't afford to replace a blown engine. Just my situation. Love the performance I currently have BTW.

I guess being that i've had 1 Lt1 f-body, 2 LS1 f-bodies, and now the 2010 Camaro... I've come to trust SBCs... True anything can happen, but I honestly believe the same chance you have of breaking one of these engines with bolt-ons and a decent tune, is the same chance you have as the day it rolled off the lot...

you either got a good one or you didn't... but the bad ones seem to be non existent

If you run LT headers w/o a tune you'll be running rich (how rich I don't know)
