Trunk Knocking

Has anyone else head the knocking sound coming from the trunk when you cold start the car and the coolant temp reaches about 140 degrees. It is 5 consecutive knocks followed by a single knock about a minute after. It happens every time

I have heard a tapping sound a couple of times. Someone explained what it was a while back, but of course I forget now. Normal operation.

haha good the first time it happened i thought someone was tapping on my trunk or a tree branch fell since no one was there. that walk to see if there was any damage on the car from a damm branch scared me.

I don't have my car yet so I can't say, but my Saturn does this. After a drive somewhere I'll park hear like 4-5 knocks come from the trunk. Sounds like someone tapping a drumstick on a wooden table. It doesn't happen every time.... but definitely strange.

I forget exactly what it is but I believe it has to do with the fuel pump

I have heard this too. I know it's normal, but what is it that causes this?

Did you let the trunk monkey out? Sometimes they need a break. It gets stuffy in there!

I had the same question a few weeks ago, and someone on the board knew what I was talking about. Said it was the EVAP system. I hear it also. Nothing to worry about, it's normal.

In full terms it is the evap vent valve. The pcm uses it to monitor evap(fuel vapor) leakage, the pcm runs a test for it under certain driving conditions and when it does you here the valve/solenoid clicking

I was waiting on a Shunt joke from someone. No one better than reliable Revo to fill the void.

Now I remember reading this a couple years ago. Thanks for informing, or re-informing those of us with short memories.

Glad to know what this finally is. I have heard this for over two years and wondered what the heck it was! Couldn't figure it out and of course my dealer thought I was crazy. Guess I missed the other posts about this issue but I am really glad to finally know! Thanks for posting!

Agreed.

But, EVAP systems have been around for decades now and this is the first car where I can hear these actual clicking. I have 5 cars at home and have been driving for 20 years.. Camaro5 is the first one to do it and I'm not too impressed.
