tuning question

I will be putting on a K&N Typhoon system this week, followed by a Flowmaster cat back in a couple of weeks. Do I have to do anything to the tune?

There could probably be a few tweaks made. I had my tune updated when I added a scoop to my CAI, and then again when I added the Vmax TB. Probably nothing major, but maybe a few changes.

A tune will do nothing but help. You don't HAVE to have one, but I really don't see the point of putting parts on a car and not tuning for it. You're changing to an intake that flows a lot more than a stock setup. Your MAF sensor is no longer in the same air path as it was, so its readings are going to be skewed. If you want the most out of your parts, tune for them.

The K&N Typhoon Reports 10% less Air flow to the engine, this can make the car very lean at full Throttle, and you will see fuel trim numbers in that range.

It also selects Higher timing which can lead to more Knock retard which will learn toward your Low octane Map.

You need a Custom Tune to run correctly with this intake system, Plus all of the other benefits of a custom tune.

I offer Remote Custom Tuning Via SCT X3, Purchase the Tuner and the Custom Tune for Simple bolt ons is FREE.

Similar Yes, the Mass Air Flow Reporting Error varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

The Better Kits Report Mass Air Flow Accurately and require less tuning and net better performance with no tune.

You can read my CAI Test Results for comparison, MAF Reporting Error shows up as Fuel Trims.

Keep in mind the Benefits of a Custom Tune Go Way beyond Proper MAF calibration but this is one of the most important Items in the Tune.

Change the Air intake system, and it throws Everything in the tune off.

The MAF Has to report the Actual Air flow in order for the computer to properly control, injectors, Timing, and Transmission Shifting on Auto Cars.
