Speculation, Fords own website states 650hp. Until an official statement from the mfg is released, on paper or verbally, please do not post third party speculation. An SAE certified # would be appropriate. I'm sure when the ZL1 is released there will be some that produce over 600 on the dyno, but the official figure will always be 580 unless GM states otherwise. Do I think the GT500 is capable of 670+, yes I do, but that's speculation and lets stick to the facts that have been officially released.

LOL youre really fighting it huh! 670hp has already been witnessed and in print, that is NOT speculation! if a mag ran 11's in a ZL1 would that too be just speculation?!?! LOL wow some people...

So....every GT500 will dyno at 670 hp and every ZL1 will dyno at 580? You see one YouTube video and it's automatically the baseline.

I wanted to see if I could find the dyno sheet for it

To be fair if the Camaro ZL1 was to dyno at 600 then people on this forum would be freaking out saying the LSA is underrated. It's a double standard to be honest, it isn't the baseline if it's the GT500 but it would be widely regarded as the baseline if it were the ZL1. Hell it doesn't matter what car it is if it's not a Chevy it will never be the baseline. You cannot deny that fact.

We all know Ford is a more expensive last ditch effort to attempt (unsuccessfully) to steal ZL1's thunder.

Ford is still working with an outdated suspension and chassis, so all they can do is throw more power at a car with major traction issues as it is.

Lastly, The GT500 is completely fugly compared to the Camaro and ZL1. It looks like a 71 GTO on the front, and a AMC pacer from the rear.

From an overall perspective there is NO comparison between the two. Cool engine in the ford, but thats about it...

HAHAHa!

who cares

IBTL

99.9999999 percent of the U.S cannot afford to BUY a ZL1 or GT500 mustang.

THE OP PROBABLY has never PURCHASED a NEW CAR in his lifetime. And likely can't afford anything except a used Honda Civic.

These are the types that start these Threads. They don't ever mention "Oh I tried to order a ZL1...or I went to order a '13 GT500"...

I would take the zl1 over the Shelby any day , regardless of HP. I am a Chevy guy for life.

That being said , I am not goinna be blind to the fact that the new Shelby will be a beast , and definetly faster in a straight line every time with equal drivers ... (there was a YouTube video a while ago with a v6 camaro beating a 10' gt500).

Track times ? Who knows , I wish MT and other mags would stop comparing the 302 to the ZL1 , and let's see some #'s of the 11 gt against the ZL1. I have a feeling the current GT500 will possibly have better quarters then the ZL1 , but I could care less... It's a mustang , peroid.

I know lots of guys who get these cars will take them to the strip , but really... I doubt .1% of ZL1s will ever see an autocross track. So I don't get why a lot of people here stress "the track". The ZL1 is a beast , best of the best Camaro , and is a Chevy...

The new 500 is a mustang on steroids and meth , but it's still a mustang.

My 2c

If you wanna chase down GTRs and ZO6 and 911s, the ZL1 is your weapon. If you wanna
Hp And straight line race bragging rights, the kraken is the car.

False on the first claim by more than $700 and very subjective opinion on the second.

You are correct, Ford DOES claim the GT500 makes 650hp @ the 6,250rpm redline..........but it will be capable (from the factory) of reving to 7,000rpm for "short bursts". I forget which mag I saw it in, but when they had the '13 GT500 engine on a dyno, it made 650hhp @ 6,250rpm as advertised. However, when allowed to go past the 6,250rpm to 7,000rpm, it was making 670hp.

Hard to find fault with the Shelby powerplant........but the car just doesn't have the curb appeal of the camaro........I still say the designer got his styling cues off a rerun of charlies angels.........heha!

when you step away from stock vs stock, the guy with more disposable $$ will win.
Soaa now we are bringing in the redline car into the debate? What next, shinier paint?

I'll take 10:1 odds on the Shelby for the shinier paint just because the paint doesn't chip like the Camaro :( which pisses me off....
