new voodoo cam is in!!!

Ok guys finally got my little voodoo cam in. 217/228 112 .549/.566 lift... this was a pretty easy job! I cant believe how smooth it went, these cars are a dream to work on.

So anyway the car is running very good on the stock tune, I will be getting a tune but for now it is pretty good. It drives almost just like it did stock, I can lug it down to 1000 rpms in any gear without any bucking and the power comes in hard at 3000 right up till I would say 6400 just like the description said. I took it for a spin on the highway and put it 2nd and punched it at about 50 and it spun the tires a bit It hits the next gear ALLOT harder and 2nd and 3rd gear are so much stronger! The only thing is the idle needs to be raised, it hunts a bit when coming to a stop and just idles to low.. I think around 750 would be perfect. When its cold and the idle is high, once it comes down a bit its seems perfect but once its fully hot its just to low.
Easy on springs, no surging at all, seems it will be very easy to tune. This cam is great, I cant wait to get some new track times! I will try and get a vid up soon.

Using factory springs with this cam, went with a single bolt. No need for a .600 lift cam here at this point. I am going to get a basic tune to clean up my idle and a few other things next week or so. Then getting a dyne tune soon as I can afford it.

Sounds like a heck of a set up. Similiar to what I want, great street manners with good street power.

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a cam install myself but I need to also do the L99 to LS3 conversion so a bit more involved but nothing to bad from what I have been reading.

Again, congrats on the upgrade, sounds like a winner.

Thanks man, just took it out for a bit and I cant picture going much bigger. The car needs about a 6,600 shift from the feel of it to really get the most out of it. I took it right before the limiter on 2-3 and it felt like I was flying! I notice its a big soggy down below 3k when I punch it. I bet the tune will really make it though. This 550 idle speed is killing me, it barley stays running at a light. When it sits around 650-700 before its hot its perfect I noticed. My car has always idled very low, even when it was bone stock it acted like that They should have set these things about 700 from the factory!

I tried to get a video and I did, but my camera SUCKs! The sound is all messed up

Thanks.. I will get it on a dyno at some point soon. Trying to gather some money so hopefully not to long. I took it out again, I cant stay away form the car I was rolling in first at about 2800 rpms and punched it and it roosted the tires like never before, cammed 5th gens are AWESOME!

Congrats dude.

After the tune, save up for a set of Nitto drag radials in the stock size...I can't believe how hard my car hooks up now on the street despite the heads/cam/intake I just finished.

You're right about the idle. I always thought the stock 550 RPM was too low just for driving anyways, the stock cam idles fine down there, but it's stupidly low RPM. As long as your tuner is worth their salt, you can probably have a nice stable reliable idle with that cam at 700ish RPM. I'm at 775 with my cam, it actually idles ok at 700 with a solid tune in it, but I prefer the way it drives in parking lots and whatnot with it turned up just a bit.

Thanks man, yep after I tune it I am going to get some Dr's hopfully get in the 11s. Did you get the 555r's, not shure what one to get because I drive it allot.

Its 217/228 on 112, I truly did not think it was going to lope as much as it does! It hits pretty hard for a small cam.

I can see it being quite a bit choppier than the stock cam. -1.5 degrees of overlap versus -27.5 for the stock cam. Cool deal, Im eager to see how it ET's.

Sounds good. I like the idea of keeping the stock springs. I might have to look more in depth on this cam one day when I decide to pull the trigger.

About how much money did you have to spend on it? All you did was change the cam? No other upgrades?

I'm curious to see the kind of power you put down now.

LOL....my bet is you'll be around the same ET if not slower if you're going to still use stock tires. You're probably not going to be hooking up at all.

Get you some 18" that you use just for the track....but then you'll be taking a chance on breaking other stuff. That's what I'm scared of.

Yes, 275/40/20 555r's. I put them on last October, and have been very impressed with how hard they hook...I look at the car on 20's and think "there's just no way it hooks"...then I drive it.

Thanks guys, I feel the car needs a tune for sure. It seems after the 3 days of driving it it runs like a rapped ape then it runs ok then its great again. The only thing I changed was the cam, this cam is mild enough for the stock springs and I did not want to go to a 3 bolt either, keep things close to factory. Only money was spent on the cam, water pump gaskets, and new crank and cam bolt. If it puts down 450+hp I will be stoked!

XS power headers were $350
exhaust was about $150, made it myself
cold air was about $40 made it myself
Cam was $420 total So only $960 then what ever for the tune.

I feel like it picked up a little more power then what the headers did, with a nice jump in RPM... it pulls way harder after 4500 and keeps going before the limiter. I hope I get the money for the tune soon though and see what its really got!

Little update... dyno time on april 4th at speed inc. so in 2 weeks

My guess is about 425-430 before the tune

Hopefully about 450 after.

My only concern is my home made cold air might hold me back but o well. I think I will eventually get a vararam.

If it's a huge tube with a filter breathing air that isn't hot from the engine...it's probably not a big deal.
