Exclamation Potential Huge Problem.... 2010 Camaro Nose Cracks (UPDATE: NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL!)

Also on homepage

UPDATE!!! See below

While I was doing the photo shoot on a 2010 Camaro SS this past Friday, we noticed some cracks forming at the upper corners of the grille. The tech that was assisting us during the shoot said that those happened during a top speed run earlier that week. The car achieved 155 mph, and apparently it lifted the upper part of the nose enough to form the cracks. I'm not sure if this problem has been addressed, or even mentioned before. Surely it can be something that GM can fix by adding more bracing perhaps, or a thicker nose molding. This 2010 SS was a production car, only a week old, so this concerns me.

It might not be a good idea to do any high-speed runs in your new Camaro, at least until we understand the problem and how to fix it first.

UPDATE!!! 8:30PM Sunday

I've been away from the computer most of the day. During that time, I've been informed that the nose on this particular Camaro was a super early production piece, slapped on to get it out the door sooner. GM already knows about the issue, and supposedly it has been taken care of on other cars. Something about a support not being bolted correctly, it wasn't clear what the solution was without seeing the car in front of me.

Anyways, it appears they have a solution. I'm going to re-edit the first post to include this update.

Now, please get back to being buddies instead of haters

UPDATE!!!!!

It is a high speed indicator to tell GM if you have been racing your Camaro.

I'm shocked this didn't come out in testing before. Surely GM ran some of the test fleet at high speed. I guess this means we better keep it under 100 mph.

I wonder, if they do correct this down the road, would this qualify for a recall?

We dont know how long the was at 155mph. If it was at that speed for several minutes....then i could see this happening. But if it just reached this speed for a moment....this is pretty disappointing.

Wow, the car should have been tested and sustained at the max speed for a short time to confirm how the car will hold up.

Most of the public will not hit those speeds but what it does show is a weak spot that over time and continued resistance and body flex will lead too.

I am very sorry about your car and I hope GM takes care of it. Considering you were no using the car as "normal" conditions I would be surprised if they do something about it.

I'm kind of glad I put my order in later and mine isn't built yet. Gives GM a little time to discover and correct problems like this.

That was my thought too. Hopefully this thread keeps someone from damaging their own car. I feel it would be a simple fix, with either an internal tubing support or some sort of laser cut sheetmetal bracing to reinforce it inside. Even the '69 Camaro has an upper grille brace to keep the plastic from cracking, so this could be considered a retro-mod

I'm still going to receive my 2010 Camaro, I just won't do high speed runs until I fix the nose.

Well then don't log on!
If you think having the front bumper facia of your new car starting to crack in the first week of driving at high speeds is whining, well good for you....don't log on.
Especially if you've been waiting for months, more power to ya...but don't log on.
But for some of us, it IS a concern, a reason to give notice to be careful and another potential problem that may just delay it even more...but for you, don't log on.

And a question for you. When did you order your 2010 Camaro?

You are right - there are zero problems right now and this post is just from some Mustang owner who is looking to slander the car. We should all just get some plastic filler and a spray bomb and shut the hell up.

It would be okay to complain about GM not making the Z/28 though huh?

How do you know which speed it failed at? It could have cracked at 125 mph. Just because they went up to 155, that doesn't mean that 155 caused it. Telling Camaro owners to do the speed limit is a lot like telling a room full of straight men to kiss boys.

If the facia can crack after one high speed run, how will it hold up over time at normal highway speeds? What will happen when you drive into a stong head wind? What will happen after one year? Three? Five?

This is a legitimate issue, not whining.
