Painting my Vmax TB??

I want to paint my TB. I know some places offer them painted. My concern is can I mask the ends off, sfuff it and paint it. Or is there a chance of getting paint particles in the unit and affecting its performance. Would like your thoughts on this or if you have done this, how did you go about it?. Thanks in advance for any info supplied
