ZL1 Portable Lift

Hello all,
Does anyone have any experience with a portable single post column lift like the one listed at http://www.naautoequipment.com/MSC-6...lumn-lift.html

I am considering such a lift for getting up under the ZL1 for cleaning and service etc. The low clearance is a concern however this lift appears to be able to roll under the car, rather than have the car have to drive over the frame.

good idea or bad idea, I would like to hear your thoughts

Thanks.

It will be too high to go under. you will need to drive on boards to make it work. The only hoist that seem to work good with any of these types of cars are twin post and even then they too are to high to go under the car.

ground clearance

So far the only reference I've seen to ground clearance, was a measurement of the clearance for the front splitter, which was 5.5". the belly of the car should be a little higher 6-6.5". Plus, the ZL1 comes with spring spacer blocks for trailer loading, that could be used to get the lift underneath.

But wouldn't that mean you have to get under the car, lift the car to put the spring spacers in, in order to fit the lift under the car?

make little ramps out of 2x4s is the cheapest way

Not really, if you had a 2nd person, there should be enough play in the suspension that you could lift at the wheel well to get the spacer in.

Keep in mind that the single and double post lifts need to be anchored in concrete strong enough not to crumble. I do not know the certification or validation process, but check that requirement out carefully.

I use a lift very similar to the BackYard Buddy. It is great for most service and also allows vehicle storage be "staking" one on top of the other.

This lift does not need to be anchored to the floor! In fact, it can be moved with a car on it. I just recently needed to reposition the lift to allow me to lift a Sierra 3500 Denali in the garage.

My buddy has a 2 post and I have to run Pumpkin up on 2" blocks to use it. Pumpkin is 1.5" lowered. Ground clearance could be an issue.

I have a set of race ramps that are just for getting the car up high enough to use a side post lift or a jack under the car. They may be a little expensive but they work great and they never move regardless of the surface. I think they are called roll ups but I'm not positive
