A bit of an apology to Greg and Rick @ EVS

Although I still think they are guilty of creating more of a problem than there really was during the January IDL broadcast, they were right when they called the preordering system a "marketing survey" (I think that's how they worded it).

Straight from John Fitzpatrick...

Quote:
1. We wanted to determine demand. Until the activity, we could only estimate demand for the overall car and the individual models and option. Thanks in large part to these early orders, we were able to ensure production and demand closely aligned.
What a farce.

I'm not sure they should think like that though. I think the demand from the average buyer (read non enthusiast) will be much different. The pre-orders will help market the car though ..

I believe they deserve a big thanks for the info. Somewhat of an apology from the people that overboardly flamed them. I do believe that GM mislead us about what would be the advantage if we preordered. I do not believe Greg and Rick meant to stir things up, but help keep us informed and make our own opinions.

I felt a little used that day when They reported that news....

They were right about the "marketing survey" part. But they were 180 degrees out on the delays for V8/SS preorders. In fact it was the V6's that were delayed. So for their part in that fiasco they were wrong.

But did'nt GM tell them among other dealers that (at that time) the V8's would
be delayed? Thats what GM told Kevin Whitaker ( my home town dealership)
back in Oct.08.

I thought the EVS guys were awsome

You were MISLED?

How were you "disadvantaged" by preordering?

I have to disagree! If indeed this was only a marketing survey, our cars would not be being built! I would say it was more than a marketing survey and that IDL thread that night went the way it did for one reason! I know there is alot of aggrivation and even anger but I don't think we were "played". I think some mistakes were made but the enthusiast did not pre-order only for a survey for GM, but rather a sold car to the customers specifications. They are building our cars, aren't they? It could have been planned better but the intent was to sell some Camaros, they did that. Just my 2.

Based upon what I read on that webpage...ole Johnnie boy is basically giving all of us pre-orders a polite..F-U! I hope they learn from this excercise as it pertains to the Volt. I was seriously going to put in a order for one but now after this farse I'm finding myself looking at other companies products.

"2. We wanted to provide a realistic expectation of when vehicles would be produced. If we followed normal procedure, all orders would have arrived just before production started with no real sense when they would be produced. Through the RP6 activity, we were at least able to provided clear expectations of when individual dealer’s could see a Camaro order produced for their dealership (between SORP and Q3 2009)."

Wow. Just. Wow. We ordered early so Mr Fitzpatick could look at the numbers and tell us "well, after Avis, the V6 dealer cars, Houston parades, etc. You RP6 people can "realistically" expect that you car will be produced sometime within 6 months of SORP."

I'll never pre-order again.

Ok, we were a marketing survey to see what trims and options would be most in demand - IN REALITY - not some bulk mail questionaire with no money on the line and therefore no real meaning. I don't see the problem with that. I think the EVS guys are "ok", but they lead us to believe in January the SS's would be few and far between even through Q3. We're not there yet, but I think we all know that's not going to prove to be true. GM appears to have adjusted quite well to our demand.
I have to side with gtahvit, GodBowtie and Silver Streak and ask HOW were we hurt by this early order program with the guaranteed R6P prices....EXCEPT that even though we are part of the process, each of us egotistical bastards "may" not be the first in his neighborhood with a 2010 Camaro?

The question is... how did preorders help enthusiasts? They didn't. It seems to have helped gm but it only created confusion and more room for dealer abuse for us. It certainly isn't getting our cars built earlier.
