Use a magnet to catch the clips on the change rod when you pop them off. Make sure you have the right driver for installing the screws that hold the shifter in place. Replacing the lower boot should be the most difficult part.

Review the Hurst install video....several times...

Try taking the rod clips off by hand if you can...so they don't go flying...

Remove the heat shield (two 10mm nuts) and slide it back out of the way...(for when those clips do go flying (lol)...or you drop something else..

Make sure the flange holes in the housing line up correctly...put them in a few turns by hand first, make sure they don't bind...

Might want to put on the noise reduction tape while you got it apart...some get rattles, some don't...rattle, even slight, bothers some, other it doesn't..

Good luck!...You will love it!

Dave The hurst comes with dynmate damping tape to help take vibration out .
I will use it on my install this weekend. Also you can put the stock handle back on it heavy and that may make it stop .

Before bolting anything up make sure the change rod slides into shifter pivot housing (3:35-3:38 in the video). The teflon may need to be filed down to make this connection. If you have bolted it up before checking this, filing it while it is in or unbolting it and taking it back out can be a PIA. Don't over file this but some teflon may need to come off to make connection.

Double check the two upper bolts that connect the silver shaft to the lower shaft after a few days as they tend to loosen up.

But I don't have rattle or vibration The noise i hear, while minimal are the Pedders street bushings kit i had done the same day the Hurst was installed. The bushings, now that i mention them are the best "bang for your buck" suspension mod i think there is.

No room to work . No vibration or rattles.
The boot was a pain in the ASS.
My thanks to Bee for doing all the work.

The hurst video says to lower the cross member. I did as the video says and have NO IDEA why they told me to do it. I installed it without any problems without dropping it.

Yep. Now we did move or slide the heat shield back a inch to get that boot back on.

DId the install this past weekend also, didn't even tough the cross member but it seemed that the stock shifter would have been easier to remove (ie: pulling it down out of the car) if the drive shaft wasn't in the way, so moving it down that extra inch would have provided more clearance.

Mine might have gone easier than others as I was doing the exhaust at the same time so that was complete out.

Did not use the dynomat that came with shifter but did use something similar .
On the c-clips and arm only did not use the rubber gasket on top side.

^^ Yeah I used two 3/4" or so strips on the bushing/c-clips area under the car (one wrapped around the bushing area and one wrapped across to both c-clips).... used the gasket between the shifter shaft, that's it, zero rattles.

Anyone done this on the V6? I'm having a time getting the shifter to pop out. I've got the laptop out in the shop and followed every step. Written instructions say there's a couple of holding springs inside the upper boot but does anybody know how to get to them? Is it ok to remove the boot, I'd hate to mess it up and rip it trying to get it out of there if it's not supposed to come off.
Stupid instructions coulda connected the dots a little closer for me on this one...
edit: after removing the boot I can see that if I had just used a flat head screwdriver and jiggled those clips around some it is sort of beyond explanation, but they need to be pried apart a bit to allow that stock shifter to drop loose.
