Sputtering

I own a 97 RS (3.8L) and during my trip from virginia to michigan the car began to sputter while I was cruising, as if the fuel pump was going out, but it doesn't sputter when I'm accelerating. (I did end up getting a code for an O2 sensor while I was there). Weird is when I put fuel injector cleaner in it, the sputtering is gone... Any idea's friends?

MAF? Maybe try some of that electronics cleaner on it before trying to replace it.

Has your car ever stalled when you went over railroad tracks or a big bump? My was having a similar problem so I replaced the fuel pump and that fixed it

O2 sensor can cause that as well as fuel filter or fuel pump. if you got a code for the O2 sensor i would replace and see how it is. if you still have sputtering try the fuel filter and then the pump. hope that helps.

Make sure all spark plugs and wires are plugged in tightly. I had a similar problem, and all my problem was is a loose wire
