They don't work. My brakes are quiet even after I cut my weights off.

I know he had kits, the 18" rim, with tire mounted on it (donut) the jack, lug wrench and spacer for $500. It fits snug in the tire compartment because I have it and you cant tell its even there if you open the trunk. Gotta remove the compressor and gunk box though. And Im away from home, Cant take a pic of it til next weekend when I go pick it up for easter holidays.

Will the rear tire and rim from an SS fit in the trunk?

"Contact Joe McCarthy at dumars14892@yahoo.com"

I sent an email to this address and received this response -

"My name is Randy, and I am the new contact for the spare tire kits. The kit includes a 18" balanced TEMPORARY tire, 1 1/2 ton scissor jack, gorilla wrench set, and adaptor. You can see a video of this kit on youtube spare kit Camaro SS/ Challenge SRT8. If you are still interested all I need is your shipping info and I will invoice you through paypal. The kits run $400.00 plus shipping which should be under $60.00 as long as you are in the continental U.S. Any more questions you can reach me at performancespare@gmail.com"

I saw the Youtube video. It looks like the same kit that others have used. I'd just like to hear from someone who has actually purchased from one of these guys.

If I'm looking at the correct website, I don't see anything about a spare for the Camaro. That's why I'm wondering if it's related to 'dumars14892'.

I bought my wheel, jack, tool container, etc from local dealer. The tire was ordered directly from Maxxis in Canada and the shipping cost almost as much as the tire. The hub-centric adapter (1.75") was made by Gary's Custom. I still carry an air comp. and tire repair kit too....

I too, have e-mail Joe and received the same message as you did from Randy. I have have been in contact with Randy according to him he is selling Joe's kits now. I had asked why there were no pictures of the kit on Ebay. Here is a copy of another e-mail I got from Randy. So I guess I have same question as you, Has anyone here on Camaro 5 purchased a spare tire kit from Randy

Hi Ricky; this is the same kit Joe sold, Joe no longer has time to do this due his job requirements, so I have taken over for him, I don't have picture of the kit but it includes; new balanced temporary tire, 1 1/2 ton jack, gorilla wrench, and the spacer. When Joe gave me the picture files there wasn't one of the kit. My brother-n-law was the one who put the kits together for both the Camaro and the Challenger/Charger/SRT8 cars after having a flat on his Challenger. I assure you this isn't a knock off of Joe's kit, and I think the reason there isn't a picture of the kit is just for that reason. I hope this is helpful.

Thanks

Randy

So as far as kits are concerned, it looks like there's two places to get them -- the guys from Performancespare and this one listed on Ebay :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Spare-tire-k...51ec2f&vxp=mtr

They appear to offer the same equipment. Anyone want to jump in first??

I'm also curious if anyone has ordered from Randy at Performancespare or from that guy on ebay. The ebay listing says "sold" this morning, but I'm guessing he has more and I'd order one if someone has seen the stuff in person. It seems a little odd to me that he doesn't show any pictures of what you get. Most people who sell stuff on ebay, especially for that much money, include a picture showing everything you get. Also, he only has 1 feedback. I intend on buying a spare tire and I'm too lazy to round up all the individual parts, but I'd sure like a reference before sending $500 without even a picture of what I'm buying.

Very good point. I was kind of concerned about only 1 feedback on Ebay. Neither one of those two sources have pictures of all the parts that are included in their kits. Hopefully some more information will show up somewhere.

I just ordered one from Randy. My initial impression is very good service. We exchanged a couple of emails, I paid him, and he has put in the pickup order with Fedex. Since I'm only 150 miles away, I expect it to be delivered early next week or maybe Saturday if they get out to his location today as planned and put it on the "home" service that delivers Tues-Sat. I'll see how it fits next week and let you know.

^Awesome. I was leaning towards purchasing from Randy (Performancespare.com) rather than the Ebay guy. Definitely wanting to hear how it goes, what you got with the kit, etc. If possible, please snap some pictures. Looking forward to hearing about it.

One thing I can clear up right now is that Randy and the ebay guy 1bigflattire are the same person. He lives in Green Valley, a few miles south of Tuscon. That's also the home of one of most interesting tourist attractions I've ever seen, the Titan Missile Museum. It's the last remaining Titan missile installation and for a few bucks you can have a tour. Well worth seeing if you're ever in the area.

Tire from Randy arrived today. The tire is a Pirelli T 135/80 R 18. The spacer is 1 3/4" thick. The jack looks like something that you'd buy at Harbor Frieght, but it should work fine. The wrench is very heavy duty and the soctet does fit in the spacer holes all the way to the bottom. That was something I wondered about when I first saw it. I'm a bit concerned about how the jack will fit on the bottom of the car. The jack has a groove in the lifting edge that looks it it is meant to fit over a ridge on the car bottom. I'll try the jack and the spare next week when my trailing arms get here.

Now that's a good deal! I wish I'd have seen it before I bought one.

I will only run my OEM spare (2" smaller) on the front as i was told by several techs that it was NOT a good idea to run it out back due to the rear diff on the SS models. If i get a flat in the rear i will put my front tire on the rear and the spare on the front.....sort of a PITA. The Ebay kit is slightly larger in diameter but if it were my car it would only go up front.

Aren't our front tires smaller than the rear, too? I haven't attempted to measure them. I'll try to remember to measure the circumference when I have them off to put on the splash guards, but if someone else knows for sure that would be great.

Nope

Stock tire diameters/circumference...
Front 245/45/20=28.68 dia/Circ=90.10
Rear 275/40/20=28.66 dia/Circ=90.03

Very common aftermarket rear tire size is....
315/35/20=28.68 dia/Circ=90.10

Interesting. I guess since they look bigger I just assumed they were bigger in diameter as well as width. And thanks! You saved me some measuring.

I'll just hope the next flat I get will be on the front. Yes, I do anticipate getting one some day. Had one last year on another car with no spare. It was a nail and a slow leak that I pumped up and drove to the dealer the next day. My wife had one a couple months ago. She has a spare so I just put it on. That's only 2 in 8 years, but they were both in the last year.

In case anyone wants to run a front wheel/tire as a spare, I have two far sale at a great price. Since it is the same size as stock, you can run it up front or in the back.
