My second exhaust build this time with j pipes

kencam really liked my $410 exhaust build so he had me build one for him. Took about 6 hours from start to finish and he also wanted to try out those j pipes , well in our case they should be called I pipes
we used the same dynomax bullet mufflers as i did in my build.
I forgot to take a pick of it installed on the car so we'll have to wait for Ken to respond and maybe he can get us some pics of that. and maybe a couple of videos too. I'm curious to see if the I pipes did anything.
all in all it came out great and sounds awesome.

how does the system sound? Any drone? I'm assuming not much now that you installed the I pipes

I don't understand that much about it, so I'm going o ask.

how does these I pipes work? as what is the function of the extra pipes in the end?

We were so eager to hear the exhaust note and what the I-pipes would do to the sound that we forgot take pics on the exhaust on the car.

My tips didn't arrive on time for the install so we left it bare. Hopefully I'll get them on Monday and I'll post pics then.

As for the sound.... Wow! Really deep and rich. Is is every bit as good as IDEALG siad it would be! I've got a Maggie on my car, so I also have some overrun between upshifts from 1-4 and lots of it on a trailing throttle in any gear. All that is missing is fire shooting out the back! I likey!

I'll post sound clips/vids when I've got some more miles on the exhaust.

I cant' say for now if the I-pipes do anything as the drive back was in traffic, so I wasn't able to do more than 60. I'll test it out tomorrow and report back.

Just got back from some highway driving with speeds ranging from 55 and up. There is a small amount of drone in 6th at about 1500rpm up to 1.8k rpm. It is pretty slight and I had to listen carefully the first time to spot it above the normal road/mechanical noise. The Helmholtz resonators (I pipe) on the exhaust are about 23" long and I think I'll be able to tune it out at the afore mentioned rpm if I went to say 26". It wasn't mentioned before, but the "I" pipes are secured with clamps (not shown in the pics) and so I can swap them with whatever length of pipe I need.

I am again impressed with your work, Sir.
On the length of the chambers, JMO that 27.75" overall length from the main exhaust pipe to the end of the chamber.

No Camaro should sound bad. Unless it's BAD or EVIL!

The I pipes were experimental I didnt know how long they needed to be and i made them a day earlier before the car was here using left over pipes from my last build. so we just went with what i made and used sleve clamps so he could make them longer or shorter if needed.
it came out really good and the I pipes are tucked away you would never see them

My J pipes are at 29.5" to kill drone from 1250 through 2000. 28" for 1800 rpm mid point. Allegedly drone gets killed 250-400 rpm above or below your selected rpm number.

I think we ran out of room with the I pipes so if he wanted to go into the 27 inch range he would prolly have to do j pipes on the end.

I'm thinking that if I section the main resonator at about 3/4 length, install a 45 deg elbow and then attach the capped section on top I can get a few more inches of length.

Now that you mentioned the U pipes, I think we could probably use them and double back on the resonator to gain the extra length that way. I'll email you.

First off, those are 5" tips from Headmans.

I can now report that the drone I had at 1.5k to 1.8k rpms is totally gone. The exhaust now resonates at 2.5k rpm and it comes on rather abruptly. Those who have experienced the old school Honda VTEC and the current one in the 06+ Civics will have some idea. Nothing... nothing... and then suddenly POW! It is more like a howl than a drone. The best thing about it is that the sound is actually in the exhaust note itself and not due to it interacting with the cabin.
