feel free to ask lol, if I'm correct it had something to do with the Chinese Transmission...
That's one part of the mustang that I had serious worries about with my past experiences with Chinese metal. Nothing against the Chinese people. I like Chinese Food, Chinese medicine, and even Chinese women. Chinese metal.....not so much.

I am curious to hear the story though. So what happened?

You are correct. This thread is hijacked lol. And yes, it was a sorry excuse for a transmission. The metal wasnt the problem though. The quality control of the trans was the issue. Beat on it a little and it fell apart. Started making a horrible whine, like the gears were out of sync or misaligned. It's gone now.

Transmissions are mostly metal. Something was making the noise and something metallic most likely fell apart, but either way that's not the important part.

Did Ford deny the warranty? Did they not stand behind the transmission?

Here are some pictures that were posted on another forum. Who needs all those metal teeth anyways?

Or those parts:

The only Mustang that arouses me is the newer model GT500's. Love the look of them. Otherwise, I hate 'em..

I must admit, a 5.0 is fast. My buddy has a 2011 5.0. He beat me

Was at a Ford dealer yesterday, walked up to what I thought was a GT500...it was a 2013 Mustang. The front clip looks identical now. :(

I actually preferred the looks of the pre-2013 mustangs, but I think I'm in the minority.

i actually dont like that, i liked being able to differentiate between models at a glance. ive owned mustangs for years and i have to look to tell v6's and gt's apart with the 2013's to be honest

I loved the look but I'm partial to the Camaro, Mustang, 350Z/370Z, Challenger, Charger, M3 so maybe it has to due with having a much more diverse taste than just Mustangs or Camaros or Corvettes.

There wasn't that big a difference between at gt and a v6 in prior years either though. The only ones that were noticeably different were the gt500's. Theres still enough to differentiate between them though. The gt was badass before and now they're even more badass!

Except now you just might get some confused people posting things like I smoked a GT500.

I would suggest doing some research to deflect a huge pissing match this discussion would spark.

In a nutshell, I am able to take a new 5.0 and run 11's with one using tires/wheels and a tune.

My 2010 1SS would have resulted me digging into my pocket to the tune of $6K+ to get to the same point. The Mustang also is less expensive to start with.

If you are into road course work, the Mustang is the better performer there stock-for-stock as well.

Nothing against the Camaro, it just takes more $$$ to get to the same point with it.

Ford "fixed" the trans once. They replaced three of the main bearings even though the whining noise was the gear teeth grinding unevenly (according to my local transmission builders) and they should have just got me a replacement trans. So after a month of them having my car I get it back and haven't had it five minutes and notice that the engine is knocking. I ask them about it and they say "because of your aftermarket parts we can't honor your warranty." After they had just rebuilt the trans. That annoyed me greatly. So my next thought was take the aftermarket intake off and bring it back later for them to fix. All it had done to it was a Boss intake manifold (ford part min you) and a JLT cold air intake with a very mild tune. I made sure the tune wasnt leaning out any where in the rpm band when I had it tuned. Leaning is bad on the 5.0. Makes pistons pop. Well anyway, I was gonna wait til Saturday or Friday night to remove the intake and return the tune to stock. It was on Tuesday when I got the car back btw. So about thursday, I noticed a whine coming back into my gears just from normal driving. I was like WTF. So just to make real sure it was whining and I wasn't just hearing things, I got off the state maintained roads and into a parking lot (that was empty) and did a nice smooth burnout lol. Man those tires smoked good. I held it a few seconds and left the lot, listening for noise. Sure enough, that damn whine was right back there again. I decided that 5.0 was going away from me and in a hurry. How I ended up in a camaro, who knows lol but I'm happy I did. That 5.0 was going to kill me lol

And yeah, before anyway gets smart, yeah I broke the damn mustang and I wanted ford to fix it. So? That's what happens when you give me a weak transmission. I'm gonna break it.

The mustang isn't much faster around a road course. And it's honestly not much faster in a quarter mile. We are talking a few tenths of a second in both instances. Not sure what kinda 5.0 you have, but 11s on just a drag radial and tune? Your high. Maybe 11.999. Safe bet for a no mods 5.0 with radials and tune is gonna be about 12.2.

And what are you gonna put $6k in on the camaro to only do an 11.99? I think you are really exaggerating here...

I beat the piss out of my 2011 MT82 5.0 and never had a single issue. It ran mid 11's in 2,500' DA with 6K RPM launches on slicks. Remember that Ford can and will deny your warranty with a tune period. I think you were fortunate to have them cover your trans with the mods you had.

First, my 2012 with 950 miles on the OD:
11.88@119 with tires/wheels and a tune. It ran 120MPH on a run later in the night.

2010 Camaro SS with a cam and other mods at the same track:

So to make a manual trans LS3 Camaro reliable at the track running 11's N/A:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...t=90740&page=2

That was back when I put the pencil to the paper before I made the switch.

Again, not intending to start a flame war here however that is what was behind my decision and my statement(s).

I think in another thread he said he took the seats out, but you would have to confirm.

It also looks like the camaro is running street tires and the mustang drags?

Either way the 5.0 mustang is fast.

yeah, im paying attention to the traps though. 5.0's with boltons flat out move. They seem to trap similar and sometimes faster than CAMMED 5th gens.

So your weight reduced mustang with SLICKS and skinnes can beat a cammed camaro on street tires, not to mention 20" wheels on all corners? Big deal. I'm not gonna take much else you say as valid information.

The passenger seat was removed, front sway bar was removed, Corbeau driver seat, rear seats were removed and spare tire and jack removed.

That all netted about 100lbs. Rest of the car was stock including the factory exhaust/cats. Estimated race weight was 3,500lbs.
