2013 Audio system

Anybody know if GM will offer the new Navi/audio system as an upgrade for 2010-2012 owners?

They are offering it on 2013's, but I'm sure you can probably retrofit it to your car.

this maybe one of the most valuable upgrades.

doubt it.

Every vehicle I've owned has NOT had navigation, and the reason I've never had it is because the vehicles that do not have it are missing connections from the main wire harness that make it difficult to do and not just drop-in.

My truck is a 2010 but does not have premium audio, so it can't drop in without converting the entire system. My car a few years back had 3 wires missing from the main harness that prevented it from working.

A factory nav system reads from the VSS as well as the GPS antenna.

I hope it can be retrofitted, but I'm not holding my breath.

Does anyone have a picture of this new system?

Edit: found it.

"Chevrolet’s MyLink system builds on the OnStar system and gives owners a higher level of in-vehicle wireless connectivity and customized infotainment options including Pandora and Stitcher SmartRadio. MyLink also adds stereo audio streaming and wireless control of smartphones via Bluetooth, Sirius XM, AUX and USB inputs."

http://www.egmcartech.com/2012/03/27...nks-to-mylink/

Hate to sound cynical, but 99% chance we won't be able to retrofit that OR it will be VERY cost inhibitive to do.

This system sounds like it will either connect to your smartphone to stream pandora, or will use onboard onstar cellular antenna for data connectivity. That sounds like a new onstar module will be required, gps antenna (probably in the fin) wire harness, vss sync, what gear you're in (most of these systems will not work unless you're in park now..)

You're looking at probably $2500-3000 in components alone.

Then you install it.. you gotta take it to the dealer to have it turned on if it requires a new onstar module, since those are attached to the vehicle.

If nothing else, I want that trim piece so I can put my own head unit in there. Looks really similar to the one that Hess was making, and blows away anything that's currently available.

Have to agree with Darkfox1 here. I would say MAYBE it could work on a 2011, but it definitely won't work on 2010. Remember the Onstar hardware changed between 2010 and 2011. That said unless it uses the OnStar's GPS antenna it will need its own (or maybe there is a different one). The rest of the connections I bet are the same, but the new gen OnStar HW is probably the show stopper.

Here's a closer shot of the screen in what appears to be an equinox.

Clasically, GM's nav systems have not used the onstar gps antenna, but their own separate antenna. Most of them mount under the dash in the GMT-800 pickups, unsure on GMT-900, so that whole "remove windshield" step may be required too.

I doubt ours would have the climate control button as shown, this is a whole new "brain" for the "infotainment" system. It will have so many hooks in so many things.. I highly doubt it will be drop-in.

However.. since you've opened my eyes that it's coming down the pipe, I'm gonna be on this like white on rice. so I'll report anything I find out.

EDIT: HOLY CRAP ITS COLD where that equinox is!

Darkfox1,

Thanks for following up on this. I am waiting to swap an aftermarket unit in until this comes out. I still don't like the look of the climate control knobs. That is a lot of cheap plastic. But it looks way better than the scosche or metra kit.

I think I might have a local upholstery shop cover the panels in leather.

That's a good idea. I was also planning on throwing an aftermarket head unit in there. I don't see the central door lock button on it though.

I just found out today there's something called an alpine perfect fit that replaces the "afterburner" looking a/c knobs with a digital display and allows for a touchscreen.

I agree they do take some getting used to!

Here's a video:

Where's the lock/unlock button for 2010 and 2011 models. Even if it does work, how are you going to unlock the doors from the inside besides turning the car off or pulling on the door handle twice?

huh.. as a 2012er.. that did not occur to me. It has some buttons on it on either side.. uh..

its included.

When I find out more info on the UHQ RPO I'll post it here, but I can't guarantee anything. I'm rather disappointed in how bulbous it makes the dash looks personally. Still.. I like factory stuff so.. I'll keep looking into it.

I was referring to the new 2013 face plate not the alpine or scosche, whichever one that is pictured. I do not care for those.

Thanks though

Oh.

Sorry. Well on 2012s as you probably know its both on the doors and on the radio.

looks like on 2013s they'll finally finish the migration to the doors by eliminating it from the radio.

Still.. when I put my car in park my doors unlock on their own?

EDIT: Derp.. not everyone has the L99..

There is a thread on here about adding the door lock switch to the door panel. To be honest, I've just gotten used to pulling the door handle twice.

Good for you guys that will wait for this but I'm happy with my scosche. Be prepared to drop a good penny to add these to the 2010.

I dont mind grabbing the door handle twice to unlock if it means I can get that awesome faceplate. I'd use my own radio anyway. I just hate the plates that are currently available.

That HU looks nice, hopefully it will retro fit in the 2012 easily. I have a manual transmission one and I only have to open the door handle once.. Can't say I've ever used the unlock button on my car yet.

I'm not interested in the radio but will the trim around the center A/C vents fit a 2010? That would look nice with the rest of the interior trim when I paint it black and clearcoat.

Since the above ZL1 with the new nav was at Barrett Jackson, I'm suspecting it would be 100% compatible with at least the 2012+ Camaros !

I know people are saying it can't be done or will be too expensive because of trying to figure out the NAV and wiring but perhaps there are people out there (like myself) that want this but don't want the NAV part but want the other functions like the radio etc.. to be touchscreen. I will use my phone no matter what for NAV over any onboard system.

I guess we won't know until Ofer gets his hands on one
