Paint does not match on panels.

My 2012 iom ss seems to have different colors of orange on the removable panels ie doors, front quarters, gas cap, than the rest of the car. Is this normal. I did try to search this with no success.

There is a slight difference in the appearance of the paint between the panels. The fenders, doors etc are metal, the bumpers, skirts etc are plastic.

They are painted at a different time, so there is a chance that the direction of the metal flake in the IOM paint might be going a slightly different direction.

From the factory, my front bumper appears 'lighter' than the metal fender it butts up against. My rear bumper looks a little 'darker' than the metal fender it butts up against.

It is relatively normal with these cars and well documented. You can have it repainted... but is that something you want to have done on a brand new car?

Here is the rear quarter view of my car, you can see the rear bumper looks 'slightly' darker than the metal panel of the car:

In this rear view, you can see the paint matches perfectly:

And here is a side view, again, the paint matches:

It just depends what angle you look at the car, the way the sun reflects off of the metal flake in the paint on the different panels.

Hope this helps you out!

And here's a video I took back in 2010, the day I picked up my 2011 2SS/RS IOM M6. It shows the paint transitions one the car.

It is just the angles when talking about the doors and quarters. But in several colors there is an actual mismatch to the fascias/gas lid.... parts painted by a supplier. On my IBM, Ray Charles could have paint matched the fascias better. Lighter than the body, and a different metallic flake.

When I had my CGM, I could tell a difference where the quarters met the doors. I think it was angle cuz I couldnt see it all the time. My Summit White matches perfectly. Did you not notice this when you bought it? With even the gas cap looking different, Id be asking the dealer whats up, it shouldnt be that different.

If I'm standing in the right spot and the sun is just right my gas cap is a different color. I move 2 feet to fix it.

If you notice differend shades on the same panel likd doors or quarter panels it is because of the viewing angles, no other explanation is possible. The gas door, front and rear fascia, rocker panels and door handles are the only parts painted at a different time than the rest of the body.

My bumper covers are about two shades lighter than the rest of the car.

Truth is panels do get repaired in the factory. If a car goes through and has a dirty front fender, they will mask off the rest of the car and just repaint that fender. It saves money and lowers the risk of messing up panels that are fine.

Also, mixing paint isn't an exact science. Especially comes into play when the factories outsource certain parts to be painted by supporting vendors.

There absolutely are paint variations among panels and parts that were painted a different times, and it is not (just) the "viewing angle" (although that does make it worse).

True, my front bumper matches perfectly.
Rear is slightly darker and the gas cap is darker orange with less metal flake.
