Leaking Camaro

Leaking Camaro
I own a 2011 2ss convertible and I have had ongoing problems since day 1.
The guys at the dealer are really nice guys and they are trying but I still have the same 2 problems since day 1. Every time it rains my rear carpets are soaked. The water bags have been replaced twice, adjusted twice and carpets replaced twice and I still get water in the car. I have never seen any water entering the car so I assume its a water bag issue. I finally got GM involved against my dealers request and have a complaint #. The car is in the dealer again for its 5th attempt at repair.

Also I had the dealer install a non GM exhaust system when the car was delivered. The exhaust has been banging and rattling around when it's cold since the beginning.

Any suggestions??
Thanks for your help

There has recently been an update to the water management bag. The new bag was not even in the order system until recently. The bag has been improved in size and will now not bunch up when the top is put down causing both holes and drain pinching.
You need to have your service manager call the GM Reps to have them get the new bag and have a GM rep/engineer present at the install. This seems to have fixed the problem for me within the past month.

They need to check the drain plugs, plus there might be a Recall campaign from the manufacturer on this issue.

Regarding the exhaust, dealers always will have an excuse "cus' its an aftermarket product". I assume its an alignment issue only.

Wish it goes all well and keep us updated on it, cheers.

I echo Nutbutt. There was a mailing about a newly finalized process for taking care of the Camaro Convertible tops. Your dealer should be able to take care of you. If you have any troubles send me your case number and I'll look it over to see what I can do to help you.

Is this new or just repeat of all the TSB's out there? I am waiting for parts for my car which i took delivery March 2011 and the 5th bow just went. I am not pleased and wondered when it would hit me. I too have over $50,000 invested in this car and am not pleased how GM has handled the problems. Imagine the stink we could make during the New York Auto Show!

We had a pretty bad leak that baffled our dealer until they realized it was a side seam that was leaking. One that was sealed up we've had a LOT less moisture in the car. Might not be your issue but it is worth a look see!

Leaking Camaro

Well I now have the camaro back again.
The dealer believes they have the problem fixed but we haven't had any rain yet.

The car now has 7100 miles on it and the dealer has offered to buy it back from me. BUT AT A PRICE OF $9000 LESS THAN I PAYED FOR IT! This is the second Camaro and 3rd GM vehicle that I have bought in the last year. This is a perfect car with no scratches dents or dings. It has been dealer serviced since day 1 and the few upgrades I did were done by the dealer.

I fear having this car when it comes out of warranty!
Where do I go from here?

If it is an ongoing problem, make sure to have all correspondence/conversations document
you may want to consider lemon law route if ongoing issues.

I just had my 5th bow replaced and only have 4000 miles on it.If I was to trade in it I would be at a loss position also.

Open a claim with the Better Business Bureau. My dealership tried the same thing, offered me 6k less than I paid so I just submitted a complaint. In the process right now of getting another vehicle.

1. Go to a manual coin-operated car wash. When the top is up, walk around and make sure everything looks sealed and the door and rear windows are up correctly.

2. Spray water around the perimeter while the top is up, then carefully look around for water inside. Don't squeeze the trigger and hit the top with 300mph blast of water, or you might put a hole in the top. Just let the spraying thing lightly pour water. Just spray it to similuate that it's raining. Don't put any SOAP on your convertible top either. Your top will shrink to half its size and rip apart in a few months if you do that. Also do not drive your car into an automated car wash. Only use automated car washes if your intention is to completely destroy your fabric top. Optional: Get a bucket of water at home and pour it around the car, or use a pitcher of water. This way you don't have to leave the house.

3. Afterwards, park the car immediately. Look inside the trunk. Look in the backseat, feel the rear floorboards. Just look for leaks. If you do find water, try to mark or remember the exact coordinates where you found the water.

Don't wait for it to rain.

4. You might consider putting the top down completely, then put the top back up, then repeat the same water spray test to see if leaks magically come back. i have read that it is the movement of the top going UP and DOWN that somehow "messes up" the water bag drain hoses, etc.

x2dad, I'm terribly sorry to hear you've had so many issues with your convertible. Let us know how this newest repair goes for you. Hopefully everything goes well and you don't have to worry about your top anymore.

I drove my convertible in a downpour for the first time this week and I'm happy to say that I didn't have any leaks and I didn't go deaf listening to the rain hit the roof!

Would anyone know what the difference is between the 2011 and the 2012? Will I have the same leak, 5th bow and rub mark problems?

you probably won't have those problems if the car was built in April 2012 or later than that. Others have said a major design change was implemented and is being applied to the newest cars being built....

I will be bringing my 2011 (bought it new 4/25/2012 - 890 miles on it) to the dealer tomorrow. I have a leak allowing water to get under my back seat (on both sides) and on the rear passenger side floor pan.

mine goes in 1st thing in the morning.
Leaking...water on rear passenger side floor.
My dealer is aware of the issues and there is a repair bullentin issued by GM to the dealers in Jan 2012 in the event that a customer has this problem.

Demand new carpet. Once it gets wet it will never be the same. Mildew on mold are not good for the human lungs.

thank you for your concern.. appreciated.

when I sent my service manager the "bad news", I demanded new carpets.
he said they will be pulling the carpets once the leak is fixed.
I will be stressing my point again in the am.

I don't have a convertible but I get a puddle in the same spot. Turned out it was the door gaskets and the rain guard in the door. Took them 3 days to fix but seemed to solve the problem. There is a full thread about this for the non convertibles with leaking on the drivers side door.
