What rear gears for a 4L80?

Car is for weekends only, will need to drive on highway to Camarofest. I want some good 60' times and great 1/4 mile times. I was considering 373? Any suggestions?

3.90 or 4.10 are going to give you best 60' and 1/4 mile et but you will be in higher rpms for highway driving.

Is there a halfway set up between 3.73 and 3.90?

He is saying its for weekends only and wants best 60' and 1/4 et. Only time he says it will be on highway is for camarofest. If you want a track performer go 3.90 or 4.10.

I would disagree ,especially with a pd,you wouldnt put alot of gear in a diesel would ya .With over 700 rwhp he should be out of gear by the 1/4 with a 4.10

4.10 maybe....but at that power level my 3.90 put us right through the traps at mid 6k range....perfect.

Keep in mimd this is an auto and he will have some converter slip ,with a pd we have found they et better when you let them spend more time in there power band insted at upper RPMs .I would have loved to run your car with 3.50s

Yeah...me too. The good thing about that combo I had is almost the entire rpm range is in the powerband. Big, broad and flat torque curve made it pull hard the entire time. A PD blower is a recipe for permagrin for sure.

I ran 3.73 with 727rwhp with the tvs2300 and wish i had more gear. I have run everything from a 3.25 gear to a 3.90 with 3 different combos and think i have a pretty good idea what works in these cars as i have also run a manual and auto as well.

What was your 60 ft? What's your 1/4 mile? Is that 727 through an auto?
I also think a 350 gear would be about right.

My 60' with the tvs2300 was 1.5's thru a manual and low 11's were best i could manage. I was always stuck between 3rd and 4th gear going thru the traps with 3.50 gears. Now that i am running even more power and an auto the 3.90 is really close so once my new setup is finished with even more power i think they will be dead on.

Nothing personal but in our experience with maggies they like to pull,if you were running 11s with over 700rwhp there was something else going on.We run alot of 1/8th mile around here and we need a gear to get us through the 1/8th in 3rd .I have a little less than 700 hp with my car with a 3.64 gear and im changing it out for a 3.50 .I set the sixspeed record in 06 with the GTO with a 3.31 gear, but we run 26 tall tires so that works out to the 3.50s..with a lil over 600 hp...Its just an opion and others have theres im just sharing what has worked for us.I will be disapointed if you keep your 3.90 gear becuase im thinking your car is going to be one of the fast ones If you can run a 3.90 gear without turning over 6800 your alot slower than i thought you would be

3.70s and over 900 rwhp I had a hard time with traction no matter what tires I ran. 3.45s was my fastest run at 9.84 and didn't blow the tires off.

I am by no means discrediting your info as I always like to hear what you have to say and it is always good info for everyone. I am only stating what I have experienced as I have gone thru every possible on these cars. I have several sets of gears and several sets of springs for my suspension as once the new build is done it will be trial and error for testing to find the ultimate setup for best et. I am buiding this car to be the fastest 5th gen street car this year as it is close to being a full race car but I still have stock interior with working radio and a/c etc. but I will not be satisfied with 2nd this year as I have put a ton of thought and money into this build so that it performs to my expectations. There are definitely going to be ALOT of fast cars this year and I have my work cut out for me but I think I am fully prepared for whatever is thrown at me. I am not saying this in a way as being arrogant as anyone that knows me will say I am very laid back and will cheer for every competitor but I know what is being done with my car and I have had alot of experience finding out what works and what doesnt in these cars.

Yeah through a th400. Had a 75 shot too that picked it up around a 100hp on the dyne with the maggie. but flipped a sprag In the tranny first time I sprayed it. Still ran the rest of the day with no 2nd gear. I didn't drive all the way to sc to run twice and go home! It was at the IRS shootout I met you there.

Yes I will be running the remaining LSX races and many other race events as I plan on running every chance I get as this car is being built to run. I will definitely look for you and look forward to meeting you as well.

Our shop has done some calculations and discussed with several rear gear mfgs. We have decided to go with 3.73 rear gears. It has a Maggie with cam. Also have nitto 315 DRs on 20's. I haven't driven it all winter since its been getting upgrades. I still have factory gears but 1400hp axles. I will get it back in about a week, but will need 4 weeks til the new rearend arrives.
I hope to show it off at camarofest on the track as one of the fastest convertibles! Next year maybe after some track time we will have a better feel for this camaro and it's operation. Thanks for all your input.
