The ZL1 is what was going to be called the Z28. Delays, bailout hearings, the almost canceling of the Camaro in general and finally the controversy of what exactly a "Z28" is or should be killed it for the 5th gen. I would be very surprised if one materialized this generation. The 6th gen is a shoe in, but the ZL1 is your Z28. You just didn't want it called that so they didn't.

This is a cool find, but I'll hold the real excitement for something with some substance, like a spy photo. It would be really cool if GM was teasing us by doing this on purpose though.

Big Deal. Like we didn't know the ZL1 started out as the Z28 before the Boss 302 came along...

And just to add...it saying "Z28" on the clip don't mean anything, and it certainly doesn't mean a Z28 is coming.
Me being in the GM parts business for over 23 years I've seen all kinds of things like this, casting numbers or names,a lot of the time it doesn't mean a thing.

I honestly don't see a Z/28 coming out till 50th Anniversary time. If I remember correctly, the ZL1's project name was Z/28 so that makes sense for the parts to have it on them. I presume GM usually starts making parts way in advance and shares parts among cars. I've had GM cars in the past with codenames or names of other cars on the parts.

I fully agree but with an interesting twist of sorts..what has GM done since the inception of the 5th gen? keep it fresh..so I see a gap here before the 6th gen comes into play..everyone is going to want a new and bold 6th gen so the marketing at first won't matter if they use the nameplate of Z/28..but there is a year or two that will be a gap before it comes out and they are still gonna have to sell 5th gens during that span..are you following so far? I look forward to a Z/28 for mid model '13 or '14 call my bluff, it makes marketing sense
I follow, but i dont recall saying in my post WHEN G.M. will(may)bring back the Z/28 badge,i simply stated that i feel like they will,at some point,(i do have somewhat of an inside scoop,i work for a dealer)

soooo are there any other reasons why the part starts with the z28? people are saying there are more than just one part # that begins with the z28... If these parts were all produced from the same factory and the batch was like z for january and the 28 was the 28th day... or something... then this would make sense... but the fact that there are more than just one part that have the same first three digits cant be coincidental. where are the pictures of the sideskirts?

Just to add: I dont think this means there is a Z/28 on the way. Just wondering how the coincidence occured though.

Its possible that a lot of the tooling was already made to use Z28 stamping when the choice was made to call it a ZL1 Camaro instead.

Though it wouldn't shock me to know that GM is indeed working on a Z28 Camaro which we may see at the end of the 5th generation or in the 6th generation. The 2013 Camaro will by far be the best 5th Generation ever made and with some coming out in 2012 before the end of the world thats a good thing. We won't be able to drive the cars produced in 2013 because in 2012 a meteor is going to hit or planet X. Or the planets crust is going to break up killing most of the people on earth so better get that ticket on the boat in China.

Not disagreeing with you but have you ever seen a Z28 part number on another Chevrolet model like an Impala or something? How hard is it to find another part with this number on it? Any pics?
