Warranty on paint?

OK, this is not really for me...but someone in the Pacific Northwest forums brought this up.

Is this a scam by the dealer or not?

"thanks everyone for your opinions, Unfortunatly after speaking with the Dealership looks like im gonna have to go with the decals provided by Chevy, and have them put them on or I lose the warranty on my paint job. the Car has that special protectant on the paint that boeing uses on there Planes, so its decals or wait 5 years until the warranty expires...kind of sucks but gotta protect your investment I guess. "

I work for a production plant in the paint dept and there is no such protection applied to any car other than ecoat, prime, paint and clear. Your dealer stuck you with some product that is nothing more than wax. I know you think you weren't charged for it but look over your paperwork closely.......

*while I'm at it, don't let them sell you any rust proofing either.

What he said. Basically they are selling you a warranty on paint. Typically it's 800 to 1000$. But the kicker is it only covers small stuff and once someone does anything its not covered.

Well my camaro paint is not the toughest for sure and I did buy that paint protection thingy and also rust proofing. Something else after 4 months of owning the car I just noticed that the wheels are pitting damn it what is GM going to do
