Do you get a shift denied message in the cluster?

From my experience the tapshift feature has been very reliable. With the huge amount of switches I purchase I have ony found one defective one, when one switch is defective, be it the up shift switch or downshift switch it can affect the whole system. It is possible you may have a bad switch but no way to know without testing it.

I've had my A6 for 3 years and have never had a problem with the tapshift feature. It's the only way I drive the car because I like the feeling of shifting since I am unable to press a clutch pedal.

Did you recently have headers installed or did you do them urself? I only ask because you my have a broken clock spring which effects tap shifting...
