Go to a good body shop/painter you trust, and they normally have "shade cards" or something similar to compare your existing paint. It has several shades of the factory color for adjusting the base formula. This way it matches the shade or fade much closer than the typical book formula you'd get from a paint supply store.

Had a silver truck once and needed some spot paint and it came out a perfect match when they used the card. Found out it was 2 shades off from the book formula. Silver's a beeotch, so yellow shouldn't be hard.

EDIT: And some body shops have a scanner they can scan your existing paint to supposedly match it even better. But I'm not sure how well those actually work. I didn't opt for that method so I don't have first-hand knowledge.

How much is the insert for the hood? Where in AZ are you located? That way maybe I could save on shipping

here's a question for you ofer....

it's my understanding (from another thread) that the ZL1 front end doesn't align 100% with a stock SS hood. I read that the SS hood would need to be adapted.

this true or not?

This is correct.

However it is not the hood that needs to be adjusted, it is the fascia that needs to be adjusted.

Here it's easier to show you.

You see the raised area on the top of the fascia where it comes to a point? On the SS fascia and hood both of these line up. However this area on the ZL1 fascia does not line up with the SS hood. So some fabrication on the fascia is needed to move it over a little bit so it does.

umm, okay. so how hard is this to do?

I don't think I'd want to have something that's going to look fabricated. I'm pretty picky about my car.

A good body shop can do it quite easily and after it's painted you'll never tell and will think it looked that way factory.

Ofer might be able to do this for you so all you have to do is get it painted.

True but its not the hood its the bumper, and like was said any good body shop can fix it.

The ZL1 hood has a wider cowling then the SS so the front lines don't match Up.

How much is shipping to 40391? With everything including your PnP harness? Thinking this is my next mod if I don't just get a new V6 or V8 bumper since mine is damaged.
