Rational heads can sit back to wait for more cars to make passes. This is one car -- the first car -- the be presented to the world in private hands at the track. Just wait a couple of weeks...

Where is Evan Smith, anyway?

Some guys need to stop thinking that just because one or two people out of a hundred run fast times that it's supposed to represent the car.

Mustang guys, AND Camaro guys, using SOMEONE ELSES time to represent their car.

And it goes both ways.

I could put my 15 year old daughter in in a GT500 and laugh at the Mustang when she can't run low 12s.

this is one data point time will tell if chevy overhyped the 1/4 time or if this car just needs some break in time/ tweeks.
Lets go back a couple years for ya. 11.95 at 120 mph on stock tire and 11.59 on drag rubber for an "old" iron block 2010 GT500.
A 12.5 is embarrassing for the ZL1 considering all the hype. But in reality any car that runs a 12.5 is pretty darn quick!!

That would mean other's need to get off their keyboards and actually race their car. What a novel idea!

Guys I am by far an expert but I have owned 3 LSx cars and each of them has gotten stronger and ran better times as they acquired more miles. I cant say for sure if this is the case with the LSA but keep in mind this car has 200 miles on the odo.

Thats pretty disappointing, all the talk of aerodynamics and launch control and auto being a pure integration and magnetic ride and its well.....slow. Guess i'll just put my money into modding my SS rather than getting a ZL1. :( rather disappointed.

It is not... I watched a bone stock CTS-V run 12.7's all day long on this exact same track in better weather last month

Trap speed tells it all. Even with the car being "broken in", how will it pick up another 4 mph!? 116 is what my dad ran in his bone stock cts-v. Unless GM tuned this thing to open up after the break in period, its not looking too good. I hope the manual car will do better. Looks like a c6 z06 is a much better buy at this point.

People are so quickly disappointed. If you believed all the marketing hype, yes, I can understand the disappointment. Pre-production hype #s are going to be different from actual #s from a dealer-bought car. Also, traction is not going to be great on the stock tires. Some of us knew and said that because we have been running them on our GT500s....and they suck! I am just glad to start seeing "real world" runs, (not simulated). Set of DRs and that auto ZL1 will blast down the 1/4

Is that what you call blasting down the track??

Downforce won't help this car in the 1/4 mile. MR suspension won't really help either other than perhaps a small bit on launch. Launch control can be beat by a good driver, so while it would help the masses it won't help the best of the best. As has been stated for a while, a modified SS would definitely be a more cost effective solution for the drag strip.

Okay. Now let's get some of those production cars out on VIR and see if the can match or beat GM's pre-production car times! I sure hope C&D include a ZL1 in this years Lightning Lap. Even better if they also include a 2012 GT500. (Which is very likely as they may not have a 2013 available at the time they run the event.)

Let's not forget about this video:

0-60 in 3.8 seconds
1/4 mile under 12 seconds on stock rubber

This car is capable of much more after break in and the right conditions.

First production 1/4 mile times are pretty unimpressive.....but I'll still with-hold judgement until I see a few more times. How much torque management is being seen between shifts?

I suspected that the QC hold was to address a drivetrain durability issue of some sort and that GM's "fix" was to program in more Torque Management to lessen the hit/shock on the drivetrain at initial take-off and between shifts. Their evasiveness as to what caused the hold added to my suspiscions and these initial times only serves to reinforce that (to me at least).

Production or pre-production ZL1 I'd be surprised if anyone beats GM's times at VIR unless it is a pro or very talented driver with some seat time. The comparison on the same day vs. other cars will be the most valuable piece of information gained during the LL.

The ZL1 is a spectacular car. Can't wait to see what this one does after break in period.

yeah it said the gt500 ran a 12.65 at 115 then a few months or weeks later ford drop off another gt500, and it ran those time at englishtown. that one of the fastest track around and i bet it had more than 200 miles on it. the car ran 12.11 with dr. what did you guys think it run 11 out the box. they also ice the gt500 down between runs. and let it sit for 45 min.

I will say I was disapointed at these numbers. I thought they would be better.
I still plan to be obnoxious and a loudmouth though...yay ZL1 is the king!
