Red marks on Supercharger

Only noticed this 2 days ago as I lifted the hood to show someone the engine bay.
It looks like two red sharpie marks.

I am minorly peeved that they are there but suspect that they can be gotten off somehow.

My bigger concern is whether they are there to indicate the part should have been rejected because of a internal casting defect.

Thoughts?

If so then I would respond "I hope so"
I just know that in my business rejected castings get the defective area marked with a red sharpie so I've been having niggling doubts in the back of my head

I work at a supplier for Toyota/Lexus and all parts that are hand checked or marked are marked with a sharpie or paint marker. Anything OK is blue or green, anything bad is always red. Could just be a coincidence.

Wow I'll be surprised if GM fubared this one especially how they held them so long for QC reasons.

Some of the restorers of older cars put these marks back because they came with the car from the factory....???

I'm in the Lighting industry and it's the same with us but generally on raw parts. This is over the paint or soaked through.

Chalk marks are common and noticible on new builds, they come from the assembly line.., I haven't looked mine over yet to see those little things yet...but they are official. Your mark may be out of place for some reason during the build.., but I wouldn't personally be concerned about it. Enjoy your ride!

Can't blame the OP for being pissed off at that right there, reguardless of what they mean. I mean hell it's two large freakin paint/marker marks on his supercharger in plain view... I sure hope they come off man... I wouldn't scrub too hard or you might scratch it up.

Actually, now that i think about it, i would let the dealer handle it. That way if they mess it up you can make them replace/paint, whatever it is they would do...

I have a couple of "ooopsies" in my paint.....and I didn't start a thread. I understand the OP's concern though. All the best to those who have one or are getting one!

Well good for you... That's you and your car. Besides, it doesn't seem the OP made a thread just to complain about some meaningless issue. He seemed more concerned about what they might mean more than them being there, and asked for thoughts on what it might mean... What's wrong with that?

Also to sit there and brush off the fact that he has two pretty large, very noticeable marker marks, NOT CHALK MARKS, smack dab in plain view on his supercharger,( that might not come off as easy as he thinks) is still a pretty big deal. At least i know it would be to me, but hey it's his car...

Wow. I didn't brush off anything like you suggested, as the saying goes...no good deed goes unpunished. I tried to be helpful. Apparently I was unsuccesfull and not to your liking. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You are a bit harsh. That's ok. No hard feelings. Moving on I am with no hard feelings!

DIrish, You have a freaking ZL1, its ok. The SC housing is powdercoated then machined, try a slight rub of thinner and it should pull the marker off and not harm the powdercoat. Enjoy your ride.

Nothing to worry about, Mineral Spirits should take it off but if you've not done something like that before you may wish to have the dealer have a go at it

Issues much?

The problem at hand is easy to remove. It is just a part of manufacturing for when something is checked/completed.

It is just a car... if you want to get a stick up your bum about it... crawl under the car and you'll find dozens upon dozens of these.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.

Glad nobody is convinced it is an indication of a rejected part.

For the record I am not that concerned about the mark itself.
I will let the dealer remove it if it doesn't come off with a little rubbing alcohol.
My big concern was whether it was an indicator of something more sinister

What if it's not red. What does a black sharpie or a green one look like on black powder coat?
