Silver Metallic Paint Fade?

I'm looking at buying a Camaro. One color I'm looking at is Silver Ice Metallic. A friend of mine pointed out that silver metallic cars are more prone to fading out. Is this actually a concern with modern day cars? I assume if any color was taken care of properly they should all fade the same in a similar environment? Assuming factory style paints.

Thanks

-Chris

I've heard the opposite. Silver, from what I understand, is the longest lasting color on a vehicle. I'll do some digging and see if I can find some proof.

Not true about only SIM. All today's cars have crappy paint so in about 6 years if not garaged the paint will go to ****. Might as well go with whatever color your heart desires except dark colors which would cost you too much to keep looking good.

This is the most independent article I could find.

I also found several discussion boards that mentioned that metallic paints fade the fastest.

My 2005 Silverado spent all its life outside, in the south. Waxed rarely before I got it. The clear coat had some very minor spots here and there but it still looks great at 7 years old now.

Yep. I'm shopping for lighter colors only for the sake of getting it to look better longer and easier.

In 2005 they were still using better paint I believe. Now they use this waterborne crap that chips right off.
