Front Suspension Brace

Got a question.

I've searched braces and didn't have much luck, but I was looking for a front strut brace since the car didn't come with one.

I was wondering why that was. The Mustang GTs, and even my old Genesis coupe came with one, but the Camaro didn't. So I was wondering why this was left off, and if one is useful to have.

Also, what vendors offer one?

If I didn't search hard enough, a link to a discussion thread will work too.

Thanks

They only come standard on the convertibles...not "necessary" for coupes...I put one on anyway (stock)...the holes are there...

The stock convertible's brace can be bought from gmpartdirect.com for cheap. It's not REALLY necessary but it couldn't hurt to be a little stiffer. After all they put it on the ZL1 so... why not!

Yes, and I think it was @140 bucks...a lot cheaper than after-market, and I think it looks better...go look at a vert on the lot...it'll have one.

Like the other folks have mentioned, the ZL1 and Convertibles have a strut tower brace installed off of the show room floor. Your 2012 strut tower should already have the holes in the strut tower predrilled for the OEM brace. If you want to run a brace pick up a ZL1 or vert brace from your local dealer or favorite online parts seller. The brace should be pretty cheap and bolt directly up!

Not sure why they did it, exactly, but the ZL1 brace is different, with a couple of dog-legs in it. just sayin'....

Get the one from the vert. The ZL1 is taller and will not fit the ss hood.

GM probably had to put the extra bends in the ZL1 brace to give more clearance for the top-mounted supercharger.

In general, the straighter a brace is, the more effective it is, so from an engineering design perspective, the vert brace is the one you want to get. (and as had been stated, the ZL1 brace probably doesn't clear the stock hood anyway)

Cheers,
Kent
