Cost of Struts replacement?

How much should the normal price of replacing a strut, or strut and spring on one wheel cost on our cars?

You can buy two take offs for about $40 plus shipping, and do the work yourself. Then maybe $50 for an alignment. But I doubt that is what is wrong with your car.

Well I thought he was asking me if I had a warranty and the answer is yes.

And thanx for that, but Im not a handy person, so basically the question still remains how much to get the work done? Any Idea?

Because I have worked on Camaros for about 14 years and have a pretty good idea of what goes wrong with them in certain situations.

..........soooo what is it you think is wrong with it? lol

Pot hole
Cracked rim
Wheel Replaced
Car pulls, and feels more unstable over rough road than before. Everyone has diagnosed bad strut, and possible spring. Either Bent, or busted.

You are not going to hurt the spring. It may have damaged the strut, but i highly doubt it. Your problem is more than likely that your rack got whacked out of alignment or a bent control arm. If you are lucky a simple tie rod end adjustment during an alignment will get it back in check. If you are unlucky you may have bent one of your front control arms or even damaged your rack. Any three of those would need to be replaced if they are bent or damaged beyond adjustment.

The ONLY way to know exactly what happened is to take your car to a COMPETENT alignment shop and have them check it. Stop trying to get a bunch of car noobs on a website to diagnose you're problem. I'm not trying to be a dick, but if you don't know much about cars you are just wasting your time trying to diagnose this yourself. The longer you drive your car like this the worse it will wear your tires.

Get this fixed ASAP.

1-Can a bent control arm be visible by looking from under the car? Or does she have to be opened up?
2-Same question as number 1 but applied to a bent rack. Because if the answer is yes then, the 3 shops I brought it too all claim to see nothing wrong visibly.
3-Finding a competent alignment shop is apparently hard to do. Its hard to trust anyone's assessment at this point, with the inclusion of my dealership who not only did not diagnose it properly, but also gave me a more out of whack alignment,....and put me back on the road with it.
4-Thanx for all the info Sux2BU, I know your not being a Dick, but I really had no intentions of diagnosing in this thread, I was asking about pricing for a strut replacement for our cars, before I go shopping around I'd like to get a rough number to work with, so I have an idea what i May be about to spend.

Also one last note I want to make, I value your insight SuX2Bu so I wouldnt discourage anyone on here from ever gathering info. In the past this forum has been invaluable to me, not so I can just do what was told to me by "noobs", but to give me insight on a subject before I go out there and asking dumb question to people I have to hand my money over to! Much rather ask the dumb questions here.

Thanx again!

If it's bent bad enough you can see it, but you usually have to get it on an alighnment machine and know what you are doing to tell for sure.

A lot of shops will just tell you what it usually is instead of checking it thoroughly. If that doesn't fix it thwy will just keep suggesting parts until it is fixed. Try to stay away from these shops.

Dude I'm not mad at you. I like when people come on here and ask questions (fives me something to do). I just don't like people giving suggestions that don't know what they are talking about. I know they mean well, but in cases like this they usually end up causing the person to spend money where it isn't needed.

Describing the symptoms would be nice instead of just asking about cost of strut replacement. Lots of us on here have experienced many issues with these cars and could help you out. Me I have been under my car so many times I know it like the back of my hands.

sorry I havent been up with the updates on this. I havent been driving much in fear of the cars health, and too busy to get days off to do things.

So I spoke to the guy who last worked on the car, and told him that 2 other shops said the tie rod is bad. On monday he says he will try a new tie rod under warranty, but if that doesnt fix it he'll have to put it on a frame machine with "laser" to detect an unseen problem.

I'd go to your shop in jersey but under the circumstances im not confident in the cars ability to safely make that distance. Hopefully when driving safely is a non issue, Im sure to head over there for other things of concern with my ride.

My guess would be a bent clevis bracket on the strut. I think the warranty allowance for the strut replacement is two hours. A four wheel alignment is going to run you at least a buck in New York.

I already paid for an alignment which they already botched, because they couldnt meet specs, for they further misaligned the car and sent me on my way.

thanx for the reference, i suppose they know camaros well?
