A Day With The SS

I have a buddy who is all about the corvettes. Well I let him take the SS for a day and he came back with a review on it. I figured I would post what he had to say about my 2012 Camaro 1SS/RS L99.

Pros
Throttle response
Brakes
Handling
Ride
Interior fit and finish
iPod integration
Exhaust sound
Attention getter
Cargo space

Cons
Size
Attention getter
Blind spots (not as bad as I expected)
Ergonomics (adjustable seat and telescoping steering wheel were nice, but it felt the door armrest and center console armrest were too low and far away. Yes, I'm picky)
Height and size of trunk opening

Impressions
You can get an a6 vette with 2.56 or 2.73 gears. The 3.27 gears in the camaro feel like how I imagine a "geared" vette would drive. Immediate and endless torque. On tap whenever you want it.

My biggest surprise would have to be how well it handled and, at the same time, absorbed imperfections in the road. Hats off to GM for pulling off this feat in a 3900 lb muscle car.

While in motion, the SS feels smaller and lighter than it is. At slower parking lot speeds, the car returns to its normal, larger than life, size. This is a big car, with big doors. Definitely need to plan ahead and be conscious every time you're going to open the door to avoid slamming it into another car. GM should have put massive door pulls so you can hold onto the doors better. *

When I first picked up the SS, it shifted very hard from first to second even during relaxed driving. I think this may have been due to the previous driving before the car was put away, as the car seemed to be adjusting and was shifting smoother when I took it back.

Overall, it was a very entertaining and fun experience to spend a day with the SS. With the combination of the aggressive styling, the loud exhaust, and the equally loud paint job, this car demands attention... All the time. I don't know if I would like this day in and out, which is why it is listed as a pro and a con. *The car has limitless potential, and it should be a fun journey to see how the car evolves with each new modification.

Now supercharge that bitch!

why does he have an attention getter as a con, that is definitely a pro and Corvettes definitely get a lot of attention.

He is a great friend of mine. He has a lot of respect for his cars and it would be no different driving my car. However, my wife was pissed off cause she can't drive it. Hahaha.

He has it listed at both. He just isn't sure he would want it all the time. My car color is IOM.

Lots of attention is standard with these cars! They get more looks than Vettes around here!

Don't get many stares...

except from the kids. I live in a community of very affluent people, many of whom are Dickwads, but that's another stoty. I bought in here 25 years ago, could not afford it today.
Anyway, most are clueless as to what I have. They have their Porsches, Mercedes, BMWs and the occasional Ferrari or Lambo and I suspect they think, "it's just a Chevy", assuming they think about it at all.
Enough rant
ps: Many of their kids, however, love it.

I've owned mine almost 3 years and honestly the "new" hasn't worn off. On every other vehicle I've owned there has been a few things that I wish were different after about a year. On the Camaro.... I sometime wish it was lighter, but not at the expense of the solid feel I have driving it. Any other changes can be fixed with a resonable budget and the stunning looks are always a big plus!
