Car shut off while driving

2010 SS LS3. Driving on the highway about 75 and my car suddenly cut off. No warnings, no lights, just shut off and would never restart.

After this occured, when the ignition is on, the lights on the dash work but once you try to start the car all the lights cut out and nothing happens. Will not turn over, the windows will not roll down, and the A/C fan will not run

The car is now at the dealer, but will not be touched until Monday. It has to be an electrical issue, hopefully the dealer can find it relatively quickly.

I did put headers on the car about 1000 miles/2 months ago, but never had an issue before, even while at the drag strip. The car does not have a tune (yet), and no other engine modifications. Of course, with headers and depending on the cause, this may not be covered under warranty.

Anyone ever have this happen? Any ideas?

Sounds like your alternator went out and you were using your battery to run the car until it died. Probably why only your dash lights come on because there's not enough power to crank the starter motor.

We had this issue with some of our work trks and it ended up being an issue with the fuse box under the hood the dealer relplaced it and its worke fine since. Does it give you any security warnings or lights om the dash?

The dash doesn't tell me anything, just has all the lights on with the ignition on, then they all go off when you try to start. I wish I had tried some jumper cables to see if it would turn over, but I was 100 miles from home stuck on the side of the interstate and just wanted to get out of the situation.

Actually, if I remember correctly the early '10s had an issue with one of the battery cables rubbing a shield underneath the car cutting into the cable causing a short. There was a TSB on it I think. Could ask the dealer to look into this as well,

one guy said his back window leaked and filled the battery compartment with water, which then shorted.

not alt, the dash would have said something, at bare minimum a low battery voltage message.

Yea. The computer monitors the alternator and if it went bad you would have gotten a message saying to check it.

Thanks for all the brainstorming, no warning messages/lights before this happened. I looked at that TSB earlier, not sure if my VIN is effected. I have a really late model 2010.

the battery may have died. had this exact thing happen to my altima. driving down the road and it cut off. when I tried to start it it just sputtered and wouldn't turn over. had it towed to the dealership (was 2 years old) thinking the timing chain broke or something. but the technician told me one of the battery cells died and if the battery's voltage dropped below 12V the car would shut itself down to protect the electronics in the car, particularly the ECU

Just recently mine had the same kind of problem. It just died for no reason. No power. Would not start. Engine light on. Reduced engine power warning in DIC. I had it towed to the dealer where they replaced the ECM. It had gone bad. No warning. After it was replaced all is good again. No problems so far.
