Quit listening to the 80yo guy at the muffler shop.

I have the muffler delete and once in a while I'll get someone to tell me that some "backpressure" is needed to make/maintain HP. There is debate on this topic, and although I don't think it is true (but I'm no mechanic or expert either) but this 'backpressure' that is needed for the 'scavaging effect' to make HP and TQ doesn't really make sense to me. Borla claims that their mufflers "have been proven to outflow a straight piece of pipe", which is still hard for me to get my head around. I have yet to get an answer that truly satisfies.
I would love to hear more from those who truly understand the science behind this though; maybe a few folks will weigh in to share their knowledge of why this is or isn't true. That said, there was a post in a related thread who claims he ran his car on the dyno before and after the muffler delete that seem to indicate small gains.
