Cracked Piston

I had a pro charger installed on my 2010 SS about 6 months ago. I put 1500 miles on it and cracked a piston. The car is totally stock Except for the pro charger that the pro charger place in Kansas City installed themselves.
I joined the site to get some advice on how to prevent it from happening again. Any info would be much appreciated.

Heres some questions we need answers too before too much help can be offered.

Got any dyno graphs so we can see where your A/F ratio was at?

What guages were you running?

How were you driving the car for the 1500 miles?

How were you driving the car when it failed?

Any signs or symptons leading up to the failer how did the failer occur?

Im sure there will be plenty more people to chime in for important stuff.

Ben

Actually bought it off a guy I know who had the charger put on.

I've only had the car for about a month and all the miles I put on it were hot rodding and more than likely his we're too!

It doesn't have a boost gauge on it but I am currently having one installed.

I was on it pretty hard when it started missing with no symptoms before hand and I have no dyno graphs.

As you can tell I'm not real sharp on the mechanical side of cars so any info you could give me would be appreciated.

What shop installed the procharger in KC? My wife had the same problem with MODIFIED BY KC they didn't tune her turbo Scion TC Properly and it blew a rod not even 2 months after! And I'm about 2 supercharge my camaro and I don't think I wanna go where u went. I also heard bad things about house of boost in KC.

I just called him.
The car only has 2000 miles on it. He got the supercharger put on when he bought the car which was in 2010 by the actual procharger manufacturer in KC. They had never had one on a new camaro and wanted to test it out. They put it on his car for cost.

Hope this helps you out.

Well I hope the guy didnt unload it on you becuase he knew it was a ticking time bomb.

When you add some sort of forced induction system (turbo, supercharger, N20) to a non FI car proper monitering of the systems are key. I would suggest at a lease having a boost and air fuel ratio guage. This way you know your not over/under boosting and you will have a real time display of your A/F.

My suggestion would be take it to a reliable shop and have them do a full disassembly to determine the cause of the failure. Spend the money on a badass new engine and have it setup the right way your second time around. Sometimes we have to learn these things the hard way. Though now you can be an advoicate on here so it wont happen again.

Important to know your AFR readings and what fuel you were using.

There are 3 main things that I have learned that make a FI engine last. Fuel flow, tune, and octane. As Long as all 3 of these things are kept in check then the motor can live a long happy life. A forged rotating assembly can surely help but its not going to automaticly save the motor if 1 of those 3 things gets out of wack.

If your on a budget get forged rods and pistons and keep the crank. If you can afford it get a fully forged stroker kit(4" forged crank, forged rods, forged pistons) At the very least have a ZL1 fuel pump installed and if you can afford it have a dual fuel pump installed. Get some good fuel injectors like ID-850's. You always want to make sure that the fuel is going to flow correctly and you never lean out.

This is the single most important advice I can give you, HAVE A QUALITY REPUTABLE SHOP DO THE INSTALL AND TUNING. I can not stress that enough. Have your car shipped off long distances if you have to but get a quality installer/tuner.
