18" rims for better acceleration - braking

I wonder what acceleration difference I am looking at (18" vs 20"). Looking at the numbers I will save 3lbs each on the rear tires going with 18" instead of 20". The current rims I am looking at are TRW Nurburgring rims. Since my car is Synergy Green with the gray met stripes, I was thinking gun metal type rims.

Anyone have 18" rims other than the stock steelies that could post a picture. Or comment on the rotational mass and expected difference.

While losing the weight definitely helps, going to a shorter tire does also. Here is my experience. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151258

I have BMR 1.0"

I have also had the BMR 1.4"

I recommend the BMR 1.0" to everyone. Ride quality is great, It actually lowered MY CAR a hair more than 1.0" probably closer to 1.2" so don't think it won't be low enough, customer service is second to none and the price can't be beat! (the ones who can beat their price are questionable brands)

I did snap pics of the stock, 1.4", 1.4"/1.0", 1.0" and 1.0" with shorter tires on my car so you can do a REAL side by side comparison of the springs themselves. Since every car is different comparing a car with 1.4" to a different car with 1.0" at different camera angles doesn't tell you much. This should really help people decide.

In the end I am glad I went with the 1.0' all the way around because it has MUCH better ride that the other set ups and with my shorter tires I am currently 3" lower than stock!

Stock 4x4 mode!

BMR 1.4" all the way around.

BMR 1.4"/1.0" split drop

BMR 1.0" all the way around

BMR 1.0" all the way around with 26.7"/27.3" tall tires

I am posting on http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151258 thread about the rims seeing as that thread has all the information one could need for this.

That really suxs2beme.... I thought one could do a split drop on both the v8 and v6. I guess its time to look for a kit for the v6's. Meh...

After reading it again, I dont have to worry about the split drop as Sux's went with the 1" all around. Even if he did state 1'

I like it to look even, so I am not into the 70ish look. Although for some it does not look to bad. I just want it to be even and look somewhat nice.

If you really want a split drop, just get some SS struts and SS drop springs. SLP sells brand new take off SS struts on ebay for like $75 shipped. The SS struts are about 1/2" shorter than the V6, so when I put them on my car with the Pfadt springs, I dropped 1.75" - perfect stance.

I should of asked, I bet that ride is sweet. Those wheels are very light indeed. So how do you like the change from Steelies to the forgestars?

Sorry for slow reply, life's been busy busy busy.

I didn't do much "performance" driving with the steelies, but the wheels do seem to spin up a lot faster and I noticed it was much easier to get myself in trouble.

The ride quality is essentially unchanged, though I also went with a "square" fitment instead of staggered, so I've not been looking into asymmetric treads at all. Would you be doing a staggered fitment?

Soemthing about the 18" just looks sick to me:

Well I will be doing a staggered fitment, I would like 9 or 10 front with 10.5 or 11 rear. After I purchase rims and tires I will save for either a SC or Turbo. I will use the BMR lower 1.0 and the same 18" tire sizes as sux2bu. I am thinking silver although not sure. I am sorry also for the very late post.

Less unsprung weight will help with acceleration and braking. Its not a huge difference but would be noticabe.

Thank you for the reply

Since I own a v6 I would like to get as much as I can out of it. I think having less rotational mass will help the poor lil engine So I am thinking Jan 1st ordering the rims and tires. I really dont want to know how much the tires will be lol...
