What does Camaro Mean???

If you are asking in regards to the vehicle this answer will probably do...
As the launch date neared, the car still had no name. It had been called various names by GM, including Nova, Panther, Chaparral, and Wildcat. Chevy also considered using the letters "GM" in the name, and came up with G-Mini, which evolved into GeMini, and finally Gemini. General Motors Headquarters killed that name, because they didn't want the letters "GM" used in case the car was a failure.
Finally, the car was introduced to the press as the Camaro, considered to be a good name because nobody knew what it meant. Chevrolet produced an old French dictionary showing that the word meant "friend" or "companion", but Ford found an alternate meaning in an old Spanish dictionary-"a small, shrimp-like creature."The automotive press had a good laugh over that, and an even bigger one when one journalist found yet another meaning-"loose bowels." It didn't take long for the laughter to stop after the introduction of the stunning 1967 Camaro!
The true definition is "a small vicious animal that eats mustangs

Yep:
The new Camaro name was then unveiled. Automotive press asked Chevrolet product managers, "What is a Camaro?" and were told it was "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs."

Google knows all, tells all.

Lots of automobile names don't go over well in foreign languages - English included.

For example, what American guy wants to be seen in a 'Tata Nano' ?

Just as no Spaniard wants to drive a 'Nova' - 'Nogo'

A popular but untrue example. This would be the equivalent of you thinking that "notable" was the same as no table.

camaro means friend. Wiki quote "suggests the comradeship of good friends as a personal car should be to its owner"

The bit about Camaro translation "loose bowels" gave me a chuckle - it could be an appropriate title what with some of the stories in the no "oh s**t" bar thread. The salesman I rode with took the 12 SS m6 up to 90 in 2nd gear from a dead stop and if a person wasn't ready for it, loose bowels could indeed happen.

Small?

Oh how things have changed.

Mustang has been lighter (and usualyl smaller) than the camaro for as long as I can remember.

Doesn't mean the rest of that isn't true tho.

Well,
'No vamos' (or similar) doesn't quite work as humor, but 'Nova' (No Va) does...
Besides, it's more of an audible joke - it doesn't work too well in print.

Ees a yoke, man! (insert heavy Spanish accent)

A joke that many assume to be true

I'm no animal expert, but I don't believe an actual "small vicious animal that eat's Mustang's" actually even exists...If it does, it must be a myth like big-foot or Chupacabra or whatever...Mustangs never exsisted in North America until some horses got away from the Spanish in the 1600's...I doubt there's anything small and vicious that ate them as prey...lol

I took the definition to be a joke, basicly saying a Chevy Camaro will eat a Ford Mustang...I could be wrong though

lol...I think they wrestled with the name for a while...back in those days, all Chevys had to start with the letter "C", especially a new line of cars...

I heard the Camaro, for a fleeting moment, was originally going to be named the Honeybadger because it took what it wanted.

Camaro don't care. Camaro don't give a s**t. It smacks the s**t out of the Cobra...

This sounds like a complete load of B.S. to me. The Chevy Nova was already in production in fall 1961 as a 1962 model, and the Buick Wildcat was in production in fall 1962 as a 1963 model. So I don't see how they could be considering names already in use for the Camaro a few years later. Packard had Panther concept cars in the 1950's, and Chaparral Motorsports already existed in the early 1960's, so I don't think they would be considering either of those either.

I don't know about any of the others, but Panther was definately in the running for the name of the Camaro. As I understand it, it was the project name when they began tossing ideas around for the car.

Maybe they considered Panther, but Nova and Wildcat were already in use. So I don't see how they could be considering naming the Camaro either of those. It would be the same as if Chevy was designing a new car now and considered calling it LaCrosse or Suburban. Makes zero sense as these names are already in use, and the new car was not a replacement for either.

It means a 2 door v8 powered 4 seater made by GM.

The car itself defines the word , not the other way around.
