At this point, hopefully, there is no longer any more confusion, misinformation, or disinformation regarding the ZL1's quarter mile time. A completely stock ZL1 (with lower than recommended daily driving tire pressure) on factory installed Goodyear tires ran an 11.936 second quarter mile.

Unfortunately, to paraphrase a very talented individual, most of this thread has been much like "a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

Does anyone remember when Motortrend did a ride along in the 2013 gt500 and stated it launched almost as well on heated up G2's as it did on slicks? I remember a certain someone going buck wild about how ludicrous that statement is, yet now when the zl1 runs a 1.6 60' on stock tires and another thread has a zl1 running an 11.4 on slicks with a 1.6 60'. . . crickets. Just callin' it as I see it.

Oh I agree. I was more pointing out the lack of skepticism of a 1.6x on a stock tire from the same people that said the G2 would never be able to put power down on the gt500, but supposedly the zl1 didn't run faster on drag radials and slick-equipped cars are seeing only slightly quicker 60's. So eager to believe Chevy and trounce Ford for very similar statements.

I'm curious....as always....

Why are the terms "Ford", and "Mustang" even being uttered in here?

I leave for a few days, come back and the first ZL1 section thread I open I get to read this....joy...

<- This is me not caring about some of the comments in here. I've been driving my Z every chance I get and I love it more and MORE with every mile that gets put on the clock. It as comfortable to drive as a laz-y-boy is to watch TV in, grips like nobodies business, pulls like a freight train, and plays a symphony the likes of which I haven't heard on a good number of performance cars out there today.

Am I going to bicker and dance around several HUNDREDTHS of a second on a quarter-mile drag strip when the car is SO SO much more than that? No.

Been in the patch for the last 6 months and I come back to people flaming a thread about a factory 11 sec car that runs 200mph? This was un-heard of 5-10-20 years ago, what the hell are the haters drinking?

hrmmm...is that so?

There's a short little adage I tell my students who try and insult or start an argument with other students over a solution to a problem in class (we do a lot of creative problem solving)....some of the kids try to make the others seem stupid or invalid in order to prove THEIR opinions right. (What does that sound like?) Anyways...it goes something like this:

If you don't have a better idea -- then keep quiet, because you're compromising the work on what is, apparently, the best idea in the classroom.

They often don't like that...but they accept it, because they quickly realize I have no time for peanut galleries/backseat drivers/etc. Be constructive to the cause, or step away until you can be....

Anyways, I can adapt that a number of ways, depending on the situation.....in this case.....I'd simply say:

If you're not an engineer...on the Camaro team...at the drag strip the day this time was achieved, yet you maintain this time is a lie/not possible, etc...I suggest a bite of humble pie, because chances are you have no idea what you're talking about. These people may be enthusiastic...passionate....proud even! (God forbid!!!).....but they're not liars.

I haven't read through the thread entirely to see any of those comments you're referring to, Htron....but if I saw one - that's probably what I'd say.

That's what happens when you let the Blue Oval guys in.

GM has never said that the 1.69 60ft time was cut on the Goodyears, therefore, they cannot be liars. All they have said, and it has been verified, is that they ran an 11.93 on the factory tires. Again, not a lie.

The question all along has been, how is it that GM can cut a sub-1.7 60ft time on factory tires in a 4100+ pound, IRS equipped car?

The statement is as ludicrous now as it was then. There is no such thing as a street tire that can compare to SLICKS.

Drag radials ain't slicks.

1.69 60ft + Goodyear G2 F1's = HELL NO!!!!

The best times in the vid were done with drag radials. I still say the ZL1 can get in the 11's with the stock tire though. Give it some time AGAIN...........

I just watched the video again. I guess I'm missing something. It's pretty cut and dry. I guess I would need someone to explain it to me.

It did run in the 11.9s on stock GYs and DRs that Friday.

At stock power I would have to say that it takes a really good driver to benefit from the DRs in the ZL1. GM has got the Launch Mode so dialed in for the ZL1 as it delivers from the factory it is impressive. Bump the RWHP by 100 and DRs are the weapon of choice.

That's really good to know. They must really have that car dialed in.

The times were so consistent it is hard to believe. Rumor has it one ZL1 Engineer could not break the 12 second mark. That is the real secret behind the event and video. Anyone who breaks the code of silence on that one will soon see but it is just a rumor

I thought they turned all that off on the quickest pass? Can't remember if that was written, or part of the video. Could be mistaken - and not willing to go back through all this mess to figure it out!

As for DRs vs slicks....true dat! However, DRs can be made to hook pretty good....

This past weekend at MIR on a 10.9 car....
