When it comes to thousands and thousands of dollars, I think it would just be helpful to others considering a trade or whatever, to see actual numbers from those who have done it...No shame, no boasting, no judgements, no justification needed...just actual numbers. I'm sure it would be more helpful than guessing, being vague or wondering...thanks to all.

It's all about what you want. I realized shortly after I got my 2LT back in 09 that I missed the sound of a V-8 as well as the torque. To me it's about living within your means. A new car to me is never a good investment, just lots of fun. You will never hear me bash the V-6. I loved that car and trading it in was difficult but in the end I'm very happy with my deal and the experience. We all know dealerships are there to make a profit and I'm ok with that. I was pleasantly surprised that the interest rates were that much lower than they were 3 years ago. Mine dropped 2% from my 2009 rate.

Did the trade up almost 7 months ago and have no regrets. Can't seem to want to stop driving her.

See post 103. I put all of my numbers out there. No boasting, no bashing. It's all black and white.

Saw that! Very nice, very informative!...Good to see money seperated from emotion, and not emotion seperating the money!..

This! It's amazing how every single person that traded up bent over the dealer and got the deal of a lifetime.
Classic.

No deal of a lifetime for me. Just got a deal that I felt comfortable with. As I stated earlier, dealerships are there to make a profit. I get that. Believe me I've left dealerships before in the past without my shirt.

I bought the V6 becuse the SS was too damn expensive....I would suspect that's true for many V6 owners, even if they don't want to admit it.

All I have to say is that your white covertible is nice! Hope to see it again at another get together sometime.

I agree...I'm not considering a trade, but I'm not Snow White, either! First time buyer's aren't beating any kind of game, either. Most everyone probably traded in a non-Camaro to get their first one, and the same rules of the game applied there, also!

2011 2LT A6 bought in aug 2010. Paid 29k for it as there were no rebates and the camaro was still kind of new then. Put 5k down to lower my payments. 18 months later, traded it in on a 2012 2SS/RS A6 Tranformers 3 edition. Msrp on it was 41k but with USAA discount and haggling, got it for 37.5k. They gave me 24k for the 2LT. I applied the 6k in positive equity to bring it to 31.5k and then put another 6.5k down to bring it down to 25k. Financed the rest at the same apr of 3.9% to keep the payments like the v6.

So the cost to me was like adding another 18 months to my old loan since I had 42 months left and putting down 6500 bucks. 18 x 459 = 8262. So the final cost for the upgrade was 14762 in real dollars over what I had left in the original loan. Was it worth it? I guess it depends on who you ask. I think it is.

My idea on staring this thread was to educate myself using the experience of others that make the change... I'm one of the people that just got the car with out doing research or looking deference choices... I though i can't afford a SS and a friend toll me is better the V6 for Insurance and Gas... I like to have that felling of power even if i'm not going to use it! yea! that inner "EGO" a fight between do the right think and live the life because we one live ones... Plus i notice the people that are happy with the V6 is because they have something else for release that "Need of speed" (Motorcycles, others V8 etc...) I guess at the end is only if you want it that bad whatever you loose in the trade is doesn't hurt you that much comparing with the joy of drive what you really want... Appreciated all your comments guys and gals!

So are you going to make the jump? Hey, you only live once! If you really must have the SS and you can't shake it off the back of your mind, I say go for it at all costs! For me, I have other expensive hobbies that I'm not currently willing to sacrifice or tone down. Yea, I could easily get an SS if I traded in my paid off truck, and I go through about $1800 a year just in gas in my supercharged jet ski (my favorite and most fun play toy I currently own) which is part of the reason I need to keep my truck to tow it and put it in and out of the water. Not to mention I have other expensive hobbies (look up the cost of B&W 800 series home speakers - hell, my home theater system is half the cost of a fully loaded SS) and I'm basically not willing to tone down my other hobbies just to get an SS Camaro. Could I have a brand new fully loaded 2SS tomorrow? Yea... But is it worth losing a vehicle I have paid off and toning down my other hobbies... No... Then again, you never know if I start feeling the itch bad enough, lol. So far I'm very happy with the V6 and the weekly gas savings driving back and forth to work. The V6 still has the same great looks as the V8 (which is honestly the main reason I went with the Camaro - Love the looks!) and I love driving it more than my supercharged V8 Lightning which I'm keeping more out of necessity of needing a truck rather than it being a hot-rod V8!

I actually regret not getting a brand new V6 over getting a used one far more than not getting the V8.

My son works for Chevy in Denver, so got his discount and still couldn't afford the V8. I am enjoying my 2011 M6, after I put on American thunder flowmasters, K&N air charger, mass air flow sensor and jet throttle body spacer. Responds and sounds much better, next mod headers, then I can start on the outside. Dealer put on these add-ons before I bought the car.

Seems like some v6 owners are being on the defensive and are on a witch hunt for those who have upgraded to the SS model (maybe they feel these people are confirming the "worth of the 8 over the 6). You only live once. It's no ones concern what they paid and chances are it was money well spent. The SS is worth it for many. If I couldnt have bought the SS, I would have bought something other than a camaro. But that's me. I think Austin James is one of the only peoplE on here who could express their satisfaction with the v6 with out overcompensating about V8 gas prices and blah blah blah. Some of the others sound like they are still trying to convince themselves.

There's gonna be people who regret not buying the SS for various reasons. If you're looking to go fast and want that sound.... great. Buy it. Otherwise the v6 model is fine, just be happy with what you have.

I agree. At the show here in Phoenix, nobody really asks about the engine. My 6 gets far more attention and praise than the 8's at the show. Of course, the picture of Megan Fox on the engine cover might have something to do with that...

I have said this before...The V6 will outrun a 426 Hemi from '67. Gotta tell you, that is plenty fast enough for me. Makes me smile every time I hit the gas.

Times have changed. Most mid sized sedans are pushing 250-300hp these days. Live in the now

No one said the v6 isnt fun to drive. But it's not fair to compare it to cars that are 45 years older

You picked the wrong year hemi. In 64 they made one that ran mid 11's. The one in my sig would dust you also. I don't really know why it matters anyway. Comparing your Camaro to a forty something car doesn't make sense. I believe V6 guys do this because comparing to current cars only proves that they have average performance. Not that there's anything wrong with that ,but the facts are the facts.

For those buying in states with sales tax, don't forget to factor in x% of the price paid to the state for the V6 and then the V8, instead of just the latter.

But, to add, I say just do what makes you happy. If that's swapping, that's great!

Strangers that see the car always asks, "is that a V8?" After hearing that a dozen times on the same weekend it makes you wonder. Like the V8 veggie drink says in there commercial, "I could of had a V8." I honestly love both versions of this car. Just damn proud to own a Camaro.
