Child Seat in a convertible?

I'm likely pulling the trigger tomorrow on a 2SS RS Convertible. By no means will this be my family vehicle but I'd like to know that if I do buy it I'll be able to take my kids with me.

I've searched everywhere and every "child seat convertible" search I can think of brings up convertible child seats and not what I'm looking for.

I have a 4 year old and a 7 month old (large enough for a rear facing steeper convertible seat). Has anyone had any luck with car seats fitting in their convertible?

I found this link but it's specifically regarding 2010 coupes. http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=161275

Any help would be greatly appreciated, like I said, I'm probably doing this tomorrow (5/7/12)!!!

I have a 10 year old and a 2 year old and they fit in the back seat just fine. We don't use it as a daily family driver but it can work! Front facing though. Think I've seen rear facing sets, just doesn't leave much room for the front passenger.

Make sure the dealership has done all the top enhancements before you take delivery! Few threads on that topic on here.

Congrats!

Thanks for the reply! Do the top enhancements apply to 2011 Models? I was going to order a 2012 or 13 but found the exact car I want in an 11 (and since it's last years model I'm stealing it!).

Anyone have any luck with a rear facing? Specific models?

Also it would really help if I could get a measurement from side to side between the side bolsters in each seat.

My Orbit fits great, but you do have to roll the passenger seat all the way up.

YES it covers the 2011 & 2012s manufactured through about February of this year. We just had our 2011 bought back by GM as a lemon because of it. Just beware and know there is a potential for issues. I bet you getting a heck of a deal! Woo!

Check e thread about a recall (that isn't a recall) and ask the dealer if those enhancements have been performed on your car. Better to get them done now than risk a new top later. :-).

Can you put a passenger in the front seat like that? My wife is 5'4, also can you angle the seat up at all for slightly more room?

Sorry to keep pestering, how much room does that base have between the seat bolsters? Specs sat that base is 14 inches, I'm wondering if the Radian RXT which has a 17 inch base will fit. I'm looking for less than $1000 options.

However my 4 year old would love the side board option on the orbit!

I only had it in the car for a trial fit. Our baby isn't due for another 4 weeks or so.

I'll throw it back in and snap some pics.

Here are a few pics. The side bolsters are pretty narrow, but they aren't very tall.

Let me know if you want any more pics.

Thank you very much! That helped a ton. Still not sure exactly what I'll do but at least now I have an idea of what I'm working with. Mine will be the opposite of yours (which looks great!), Black with orange stripes, same interior.

Thanks again!

Also, good luck with the baby in a month or so, it's exciting!!!

You might want to have a response ready in case you get what I got: I had my 2 year old grandson in my last vert, and a woman saw it, and began screaming that I had no right to have a child in a convertible unless I had a roll bar. Claimed it was child engdangerment, and Child Protective Services was to be involved. I gave her the one finger salute and drove off. Just expect anything from idiots, possibly even a power crazed cop.

Here in Florida, my answer to that would be "Florida Statute § 316.613 requires children to use a child safety seat. It does not bar transporting children in convertibles. So buzz off." Ok, I might substitute "buzz" for another four letter word.

Most of the time you wouldn't be up on a freeway doing 80 with a kid in the back anyway. They'd be pissed off and nobody wants to hear that much screaming LOL. People need to mind their own beeswax. I swear.

Makes me glad I had my kids before they started this baby seat stuff. One of yours is 4 and still need a baby seat? How old do they have to be before you're done with that?

My son was 3 1/2 when I bought a Fiat 124 2 seat convertible and I still remember how happy he was that we let him ride home from the dealer in the passenger seat. The only problem was the seat belt alarm kept gong off because he was so little that the belt wasn't pulled out far enough to register that it was on.

Edit - On second thought, after seeing Mike's picture maybe the kids like the seats since they can see out better. They sure do look happy.

Believe it or not, current recommendations are that kids be in booster seats til 57" tall so the seat belts hit their bodies in the correct position. Each state law is different. http://www.ghsa.org/html/stateinfo/l...fety_laws.html

I have a sports car with very narrow back seats, so I searched for seats with a narrower stance. My son had a Recaro seat w a built-in speaker system in my car, and a different Recaro booster in hubby's H3. He just graduated from the seats last week/reached 57". He did love both seats. As poster above said, he could see out well, and they were far more comfy than the seats hubby and I were in!

Buckling the little one's seat will probably be easier in a vert than it was to stretch and twist to reach in my current car!

ETA: I googled baby car seat camaro, and there are some articles, etc available. It also directed me back to previous threads here about car seats. Who knew?

Interesting site with other good information, too. Thanks! It is a bit astounding to think of second grade kids riding in child seats. I wonder how many back injuries occur to parents putting those things in and out of back seats in hardtops.

Welcome!

Lol. I have a low, small coupe, so thank God for being thin with long arms! It was kinda like a new yoga pose. Bend at waist, twist torso sideways, and fully extend arms! At least when they're older, they can buckle themselves!

Hope OP got his vert!

My 5 year old sets in a booster chair behind me in the driver's seat. He barely fits with me at wheel and being 6' tall. My 11 year old is in passenger seat and his 9 year old brother sets behind him. Truth be told, all 3 of them won't fit the car much longer but my oldest will get his one car in a few years.

One of the main reasons for getting the camaro is having back seats and taking the whole family on joyrides, otherwise I'd be on the corvette forums instead of here with you all, LOL.
Any standard infant car seat base will fit easily in there and attach to anchors clearly marked on the lower back of the seats. Both front and rear facing child seats will fit. You just have to move the front seats a little more forward.
I highly suggest getting something like this also:
