Alpine kit, No AM radio.

Just finished installing the Alpine kit, with the w910. Everything that i have tried works great. Ipod/gps/fm radio all work fine. The only problem i'm having is that if i go to AM radio its not picking up anything, its completely static. Any ideas?

heres the diagram for the harness, not sure which one powers the AM antenna/amp or w/e so i could directly check that.

yeah, its frustrating as hell. I took everything apart today and still having no luck. Everything is connected as the instructions say. Can it be a bad alpine head unit?

I don't think it the head unit. I think is has to do with the antenna.

Could it be the antenna adapter that came with the alpine kit? If i connect the stock radio everything works fine, but the new one i get nothing. :/

With the scosche kit, u gotta buy the antenna separate. Is that not the case w the Alpine?

I kind of think it is the adapter also. Not sure never actually trouble shot the problem because I hardly ever go to AM.

It comes with the Kit, its just an adapter that connects to your stock antenna. Should i try getting a separate antenna?? anyone know any antennas that can possibly work with this kit?

You could try buying an antenna form Auto Zone or where ever and just plug it in to the Head Unit and try it out for trouble shooting. Just to see if it works.

haha I'm kinda with this one. I'm not trying to be a jerk I honestly am curious what you're using AM for? Sports radio or something?

Just seems that someone working on dash kits would be more the mp3/hd radio/satellite radio kinda person. Can't tell you the last time I checked out any AM haha.

that was actually going to be my next step, I wonder if autozone would let me return it or exchange it for something else since i would have already opened it.

I am an mp3 thye of person, over 40 gig on an ipod. But that dose not mean the AM should not work. Every once in a while I will listen to a race on MRN. You pay a lot of money for good stuff and I expect it to work.

I knew this ^^ was coming. On long trips I love my AM radio once in a while
for local info plus Rush, Imus, traffic, weather etc.
Not everyones into the c-rap noise 24/7.

Scuba said he wasn't trying to be a jerk. He was just curious what AM was being used for and come to find it is ESPN, some race or whatever..

It is kinda like land lines. I can't remember the last time I owned one!

Even though I rarely use AM I would also be taking it back. If I pay for something then all of the options I payed for should work!

Damn, let me know of you get it working. I haven't bothered looking at mine anymore since I've been so busy. I think I connected something wrong or something is just faulty because the FM radios quality isn't that great. I might give in and just take it somewhere. :/

My AM reception is horrific. Why do I listen to AM you may ask? 880, yankee fan, WFAN etc. Has anyone resolved this issue or is it a case where everyone has given up. No responses since may?

I'm at the end of my rope trying to figure out what is going on with my AM problem. I've called Alpine a few times and get absolutely no where. Scosche, the same thing. I can't understand how this problem has not been addressed by Alpine. Is it possible that everyone of us who purchased this kit have the AM problem and no one has come up with a solution? Better yet, is there anyone out there who actually gets AM stations with their aftermarket radio?
