ZL1 Market Markup

So I saw my first ZL1 on a showroom floor. Very nice black ZL1, looked at the price and it was 58K. Asked sales man if there was a mark up and pointed to a little side piece of paper. Stated 10K market markup for a total of 69 K.
My question for people who have purchased this car or people who have looked into them. Is it normal to pay 10K over sticker price, just because a dealership wants that? I mean the sales man was not the nicest when I asked if there had been offers on the car. He stated yes but we are not taking less than 69K. I was like ok, I made no big deal just asked if offers were made. Then he was really abroupt, wow and the sun was shinning.
Anyone buy a ZL1 with out paying the 10K mark up or at least getting half that 10K marked off?

I know when my dealership has cars like that, we sell them at sticker and don't mark them up past that. Usually I sell my cars at Invoice - Destination - 1,500 bucks - Rebates.

But I have heard of other dealerships doing such with limited production cars like that however.

Don't buy from someone who wants to play games. It's not that hard to say no.

I got mine at MSRP. There are plenty of dealerships out there who choose not to charge more than MSRP. If you can't find one, Talk to Becky Roger's on this forum. You will have to wait, but you CAN get them at MSRP, do not pay any premium! Good luck.

Thank you, I thought I was the only one thinking that asking 10K just because was stupid.

I would say the majority of the people on this forum have paid
MSRP or a small amount over. Remember the 2013's are just
around the corner now.

I was not in the market for a camaro back then, but I have
talked to others who were. There reply was yes there were
dealers back then doing ad ons to MSRP in fact some of the
same group of dealers that were doing it back then are doing
the same thing with the ZL1's from what I have been told.

Signed an agreement when I put down my deposit to pay nothing over msrp. The msrp of the car hadn't even been released yet. I think it's crazy to deal with a dealership like that. There are plenty of them out there that will treat you right.

This was the sticker on a local 2010 SS when they debuted....so yes, dealers definitely marked up the SS as well... Not sure if anyone ever actually pays these insane premiums, but i guess it's possible.

I paid MSRP because I was pretty sure that was going to be the best deal I could get for a very high demand, limited availability vehicle. There are a lot of dealers that will sell at MSRP. It might be tough to find available 2012 models but 2013 ZL1 production starts in one month. IF you are serious, find a dealer now and give them a deposit. You will not be disappointed with the car.

There is a dealer here in the Houston area (SW Houston, Sugarland) called Classic Chevrolet that doesn't or didn't even require a deposit for the ZL1. They put your name on a list and called when it was time to order. If you still wanted ZL1 they brought you in to place the order and the most they asked for was $500 refundable deposit for a car priced at MSRP. As a matter of fact they called me last week to see if I wanted a ZL1 that had been refused since I was next on the list but it was the wrong color with a sun roof (@MSRP). I haven't given them any money yet but am on the list for 2013. At least that is the story I've been told. I did end up buying my wife an LTZ Tahoe so my ZL1 may have to wait a while, shucks. The Dealer and my wife might have played me now that I think about it, lol.

You GM fans are lucky... Ford Dealers really like to use ADMs (Additional Dealer Markups). Not only did the dealer I placed my original order with try and hit me with a 15K ADM after the fact (I reneged and bought from someone else), but several dealers I have visited recently looking for a '13 Boss are still playing the same game a year and a half later. They can see they already got my money on a '12 Boss, but they are simply greedy. I was going to buy a Fiesta last year as my winter car but after all the ADM nonsense (along with a few other Ford of Canada issues) I went with a Mazda 2. And at this rate I'll end up with a Camaro before I find a dealer willing to price a '13 Boss fairly. Fools.

Not only is paying over sticker on any car an absolute waste of money....look at the insane $995 charge for "dealer prep". Funny as hell, but unfortunately there are people out there that will pay that. And so let them... I saw a beautiful new ZR1 Corvette leave the showroom floor for invoice at a dealer in town a few months back, I'd take that deal in a heartbeat. Over MSRP for a production car? What the hell are they thinking?

I saw this happen when Chrysler came out with that nasty looking PT Crusier....they got incredible amounts for that thing. A friend of mine back then paid around $50K for one of them just to be one of the first to have it. Wonder if it's still on the road.

Wow I feel bad for the SS owners that payed over the MSRP. That is just crazy, although I can see if you really want a car and money is no problem then buy it. I just dont see anyone recouping that Fair Market Markup if they ever go to resell the car. I wonder what the first used ZL1 will go for.
