What speakers to upgrade to?

Right now I have the BA speakers that come with the ss and I'm looking to upgrade for better sound. I currently have 2x JL 12W3's with a JL HD750 amp. Would I be okay with just replacing the 2 front speakers and upgrading the speaker amp? What's the best speakers out there right now and amp or what you would recommend?

What amp would you recommend running for just the 2 door speakers? And did you leave the stock amp for the rest of them or use the new amp for all the speakers?

When it comes to sound, there is a lot of personal preference involved since we all hear differently. Personally I like JL Audio as someone mentioned above as well, and some of my favorites that I've recently heard are the Focal Performance Series. The amp will depend on exactly which speakers you choose. The JL HD series amps are one of my favorites due to size and performance.

My amp runs all the speakers so that wont help much. You may also look into alpine digital series of amps, i am using one in my 67.

Yes, the Alpine PDX Series is also a great choice. Compact with great performance.

Focal speakers sound great. I have them in my SS with a Arch Amp. I went with the MTZ Sub box from Chevy. I got it before I realized what I could of got for $1000.00. Anyways I have a good sounding set up now.

Buy the most your money can get....most of the time (name plate aside) more money gets you a better product. I stay focal, inifinty, polk, hertz, and the like. But there are so many other less know options.

The hertz hsk 165 look pretty good to me, if I were to get 2 of these should I look at this for the amp? http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Q0ToBUA...o-JX360-2.html

That's my setup and I like it.

JL HD900/5
Focal PS-165s front
Focal PC-690s in the rear.

Excellent choice, I know it sounds great! Some of my favorite equipment. I think the Performance series from Focal outperforms some of the more expensive speakers from them.

out of curiousity, why are u only going to amp up the fronts? Why not get a 5 or 6 channel amp to use for all and add a good set of speakers up front for now? I personally like the Hertz, but some here like the Focal. Either way you should be able to be close to your $1000 mark.

If I were to have the stock speakers running at the same power as the hertz I thought it would be too much for the stocks.

I am currently running stock rears with mine and using a 6ch amp with no issues. Sounds good, but am seriously thinking of changing our the rears to to get it a little more out of of the system. So far, very happy with the Hertz. Have u had a chance to go listen to them. Did u see the post from a retailer that sold Focal speakers for 6 years and dropped the line and now sells Hertz

I havent had a chance to listen to any yet but from what I've been hearing hertz or HAT Clarus seem to be the best choice. I would love to get a 4+ chan amp but I think because of the price difference I will stay with the 2 chan for now. Does anyone know of any reputable dealers to get the hertz hsk 165's or HAT clarus for the best price?

Check out the Hybrid Audio Technologies speakers that Subthump offers. I want to get the Hertz line but I understand the HAT speakers sound comparable.

They have my attention and I am looking towards those when I do my system.
Cheers

It depends which speakers. The HAT speakers that Subthump sells I think are the Imagine line, maybe Unity? I'm looking at the Clarus line myself and they'll be going in this month.

In the 6.5" size, we offer all three--Imagine, Unity, And Clarus. We also offer 6x9 replacements in the Mirus series. What we've done is to take HAT's individual speaker offerings and packaged them with some of our own speaker adapters and harnesses to make up partial or complete car speaker kits. When you buy speakers from us, you recieve everything you need to install those speakers without going to 2-3 different places trying to find these items. I think this adds tremendous value to our product at prices that are extremely competitive. We've had several customers install these speakers in their cars and come back to this forum with incredibly positive reviews. Our goal is to provide a product to our customers that competes in price and quality to just about anything available, and at the same time, you get all the goodies free and save time and money shopping elsewhere. We may not convince every die hard to try them, but more and more guys are really enjoying what they are getting from us and saving $ too.

You can find out more information on these kits here: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=206422

I wouldn't mind some speaker info as well. Im currently running 2 x Infinity Reference 10" Subwoofer (1060W), with a Bassworx ported box enclosure. To that I have Kenwood 1-Channel Amplifier (KAC-8105D), 1000 watt. I get some decent sound, but I want something a little louder even. I have the BA that came with the sound package for the car as well, not sure what else I can do to make this car really thumb. I listen to Metal as well, so I want this thing screaming.
