Very Sad Story.....Toby the cat

I cam across this story this afternoon and really wish I didn't. At the Centerville SPCA (Boston, Mass) they took in a 6yr old cat (they) named Toby. He had a fractured back leg that didn't heal properly, his jaw had been fractured and didn't heal properly, both ears were severely infected with bloody tissue and cancerous polyps, an abscessed tooth, and he had been repeatedly shot with a BB gun (there were pellets lodged in his abdomen). HOW THE F$$K can a supposed "human" do this to an animal ???? And to top things off, Toby was very good through the procedures and purred all the time making him a favorite of the staff.

I know some people just don't like cats for one reason or another, but to let a cat get to that bad of shape and use him for target practice????? Give me a F$$K'N break!!!

I sent the SPCA an email asking how Toby was doing. I hope to hear back. Is anyone from the area? Any new details? This isn't what I wanted to read before heading into work for a 12hr night shift :(.

Being a cat lover, this is absolutely appalling to hear ! It makes me livid to no ends that people in this day havent learned anything about heart and compassion for all living things. I mean, seriously....it says a lot about people when they have no conscience..

Karma....just wait...

I am not a cat lover, but I am an animal lover - everything about that story is sickening.

Return the favor and find the scum that did that to the cat and do it to them.

I cannot handle people doing that stuff to animals. Beyond stupid.

Pets need a License!!!!!! I think people who want to have a pet should also have to have a license Make sure they are willing to take the responsibility to keep the animal in good health and loved.

So how much money are they wasting on this cat?

I mean I get the animal cruelty and Ide be the first in line to hang whoever is responsible.

But man, the amount of money and time to repair those problems should be put to better use, how about towards helping some person who is injured? I mean Ive seen some of the write ups on the cost of repairing broken bones in cats, its not a simple splint and go type procedure...and the cat is 6 years old and a stray....

I just dont understand how people get this bent over animals when we have people just as helpless and abused that dont get near the visibility or help as the various animal "rescue" org.'s.

Man, that's freaking disturbing how people like that can exist in this world. I sure hope that the people that did that to that poor cat get what they have coming to them for hurting that poor animal :(

I am not a huge fan of cats, but I don't believe in the maltreatment of any animal.

Imo I would rather them fix the cat than most people who get hurt so to each their own.

The biggest problem I have with cats are irresponsible owners and improper laws. They have caused us to have way too many stray cats running around and unfortunately this also breeds abuse.

While I feel bad for this cat, I do believe that humans have caused too many to exist in poor environments.

Down here in Tampa, Fl we had a case where a cat was shot with BB's. Then was put in a animal carrier and it thrown into Tampa Bay to die!! Luckily someone saw it floating and rescued the cat!! They tracked down the owners by the writting on the carrier!! Cat made a full recovery and found a good home!!

I think it's funny how everyone that's not from around here thinks that anyplace in Massachusetts is in Boston. Centerville is actually on Cape Cod... did it actually say Boston, MA in the story OP?

Thats a horrible story, I hope that he recovers from all of this. I have 3 cats and love them to death, some people are so cruel to animals.

anybody who would do that to an animal would do it to a person. don't they say psychopaths start off as animal abusers?

Moriarti, I couldn't agree more. Rhyder, perhaps this will provide some insight:

The Starfish Story

adapted from The Star Thrower
by Loren Eiseley (1907 - 1977)

One day, as a man was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.

He came closer still and called out "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?"

The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."

"Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" asked the somewhat startled wise man.

The young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."

Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!"

The young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, "It made a difference for that one."
